Satan - in the religious worldview of the so-called Abrahamic religions (religions whose traditions are associated with the name of Abraham - the patriarch of the Semites, the beginning of the first millennium BC) represents the main antagonist of God, the enemy of good, who is the focus of absolute evil.

The main goal of the Devil's activity is to instruct a person on the wrong path - the path of death of the spirit.

As you know, the Bible describes the birth of Satan as one of the host of angels, namely the cherub (the highest rank among the angels).

It also says that he was endowed with immeasurable strength and knowledge, which was the reason for his pride. As you know, pride is one of the deadly sins. And she also encouraged him to oppose the will of God. For this he drove Satan into the underworld.

“You are the seal of perfection, the fullness of wisdom and the crown of beauty. You were in Eden, in the garden of God; your garments were adorned with all kinds of precious stones … You were the anointed cherub to overshadow, and I set you to that; you were on the holy mountain of God, you walked among the stones of fire … You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, until iniquity was found in you”(Ezek. 28: 12-15)

However, God's plan did not stop there. The devil was given an important role. By his activity, cunning and deceit, he creates the opposite of light and good. Therefore, a person gets the right to choose: light or darkness.

The Bible indicates that Samael can take on various forms. So, Eve is tempted by a serpent, presumably this is the Devil (although there are suggestions that this is Yahweh), but there is no direct indication of this in the book. He also appears as a huge sea monster - Leviathan.

Again, according to the Bible, Satan can control individuals and entire nations, control fire and wind, and cause disease. But it is immediately indicated that he, like other angels, is incomparable with God in strength and knowledge.

In different religions, the abilities of the Evil One can be quite different. If in Christianity he is completely subordinate to the will of his father, then in Judaism he has an individuality.

A person can take the side of evil by committing sins, including fortune-telling and witchcraft. And baptism means the denial of all sin and the renunciation of it.

One of Satan's most famous and dangerous activities is possession. It manifests itself in inappropriate and unusual behavior. There are always elements of blasphemy, the acquisition of paranormal abilities (telekinesis, clairvoyance, levitation, etc. They can be called the Gifts of the Devil). In addition, a person can begin to speak in languages previously unknown to him - xenoglossia, the unreasonable occurrence of scars, scars, wounds, bruises.

The devil was cast down by the archangel Michael into the Underworld, but there are places in the Bible where it is said that the Devil can walk freely on the Earth. That is, he is not locked in Hell and has the ability to appear on Earth at will. The devil is also not deprived of the opportunity to communicate with God.
