The Institute for Ethics in the field of technologies close to artificial intelligence will be created as part of a joint project of the social network Facebook and the Munich Technical University. Facebook, as indicated in the company's official blog, will support the institute with a grant of seven and a half million dollars.

Facebook will fund a center for the study of ethical aspects of artificial intelligence for five years.

Then the results of the work of the center will be presented to the general public - in particular, narrow specialists, entrepreneurs and legislators. The latter will have to deal with the legal regulation of AI, guided by the conclusions of scientists.

Facebook representatives note that the problems of AI, including those related to the ethical side of silicon intelligence, are a very complex area for research, that is, such scientific projects cannot be carried out within the framework of any one industry. Accordingly, independent academic contributions from AI Ethics Institute staff will play a critical role in the progress of research on the topic.

“The Institute's specialists will tackle complex ethical issues related to the use of AI and robots. In addition, the center will investigate the social impact of the massive adoption of AI that is expected in the coming decades,”says Dr. Christoph Lutge, PhD in Business Informatics and Philosophy, who was appointed head of the new research center.
