British archaeologists believe that the "House of the Dead", located in Wiltshire (England), contains the remains of the people who built Stonehenge. Reported by The Telegraph.
Research carried out with the help of a drone showed that at the site of the "House of the Dead" there are two deep ditches that go around the central part, which is an embankment, where, according to scientists, the bodies of the builders of Stonehenge are buried.
Experts believe that the land from the ditches was used to create an embankment, and the burial of people in the "House of the Dead" was carried out about 5.6 thousand years ago. Previously, archaeologists believed that the ditches were traces of agricultural activity.
"House of the Dead" is located between two ancient monuments - the largest megalithic stone circle in Europe, Avebury and Stonehenge.
By now Avebury includes three stone circles (one outer and two inner). The large circle is formed by about a hundred stones and exceeds 300 meters in diameter.
Stonehenge was built four to five thousand years ago. The heaviest stones weigh 30-40 tons. The final purpose of the monument is still not known. These structures are known to have been brought to Wiltshire (present location) from Wales.
