At the top of Mount Chaittiyo in Myanmar, there is an inexplicable miracle and one of the three most revered Buddhist shrines - a huge granite boulder with a pagoda built on top, strikingly resting on a small natural ledge. Buddhists believe that the boulder is prevented from falling by a few hairs of the Buddha, which are walled up inside the pagoda.
The stone seems to be balancing on the edge, contrary to the law of gravity. Pilgrims from all over the world come here from all over the world to add their plate of thin sheet gold - which explains the appearance of the stone.
The height of the gilded stone is 7.6 meters, plus the pagoda adds another 7.3 meters to it. It can be rocked by two strong men. They say that you can stretch a rope under a stone.
Legend has it that somehow Buddha, being in these places, gave a lock of his hair to a hermit named Tek Ta. The hermit securely hid the precious hairs and later gave them to the king with the wish to keep them in a stone resembling the head of the hermit himself. And this king, inherited supernatural powers from his father, alchemist mother - princess of dragons naga.
They found a suitable stone at the bottom of the sea. Then, with the help of Tagyamin (the king of spirits in Buddhist cosmology), they found a suitable place and built a pagoda on top, in which the Buddha's strand was walled up. And the boat on which the stone was transported turned into stone. According to legend, it is these hairs that prevent the golden stone from falling down and rolling along the mountainside.
Legend also says that pilgrims who climb the golden mountain three times in the same year will be blessed with wealth and recognition.
