A mysterious creature, suspiciously similar to the legendary Loch Ness monster, was spotted the other day in the Albanian part of the European Lake Prespa near the village of Pretor.

By turning on the video below, you can see how a dark head on a long neck rises above the surface of the reservoir, then goes under the water. The recording instantly spread across the Internet, collecting many views and comments.

Some netizens ironically note that the famous Nessie decided to leave Scotland for the winter holidays and float to rest in warmer Albania. Skeptics argue that it was a submarine's periscope, but none of the doubters can say which submarine is equipped with an optical instrument of such a bizarre shape, not to mention the fact that submarines do not float on lakes.

The fact that a monster unknown to science lives in Lake Prespa has been talked about for many decades. About five years ago, a similar head on a long neck was spotted here near the Greek village of Nivika.

Albanian professor about his doubts about the mysteries of Lake Prespa

However, not everyone believes in the existence of a mythical cryptid. For example, the Albanian professor of geography Sima Yonoski argues that we are talking about a giant catfish. Jonoski, by the way, was the first to swim across this lake in the 70s of the last century. The scientist says:

I remember how a ship sank near the Mal-Grad island in Prespa. Many children died. When the divers were looking for the corpses of the dead, they suddenly stumbled upon a huge catfish. This fish could, if desired, easily swallow an adult. The divers were so scared that they immediately stopped searching. It is likely that such a catfish was repeatedly noticed in the Macedonian, Greek and Albanian parts of the lake.

However, catfish, even of the most gigantic sizes, cannot show their head above the water on a relatively thin and long neck - something is not right here. However, the professor himself is not one hundred percent sure of his skeptical theory. Here's what he adds:

Nevertheless, sometimes very strange things happen on Prespa, which are not observed in other lakes in the world and which are difficult to explain from a scientific point of view. For example, in 1976, when I was working as a teacher, I saw with my own eyes a huge column of water that rose on the border with Greece. He sank and completely disappeared only after 10-15 minutes. We have a lot of unusual things happening in the Balkans, and even scientists, including myself, do not hesitate to admit it.
