Video: Blue 'sprites' and 'elves': NASA investigates flashes that appear above storms on Jupiter 2024, September

Wonderful footage of an extremely rare weather event was filmed in Puerto Rico over the Caribbean Sea. Researcher Frankie Lucena caught a lightning bolt known as a "sprite" through his lens on September 18, 2016 (see video below).

Incredibly, sprites were legendary in the scientific community until 1989, when cameras aboard a spacecraft filmed one of them and confirmed that they were real.

"This kind of sprite is often referred to as 'jellyfish' or 'atomic bomb' and is the largest sprite ever," said Oscar van der Velde, a research team member at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. "This sprite consists of a bright halo that is about 85 km above the Earth's surface."

Not surprisingly, some UFO researchers, given the unusual appearance of the sprite, suggest that the video is actually an alien ship.

While scientists are almost certain that the sprites are not of extraterrestrial origin, this is quite possible, as there have been several cases where UFOs themselves deliberately caused thunderstorms with which they are charged, regardless of the damage it causes to the environment. …

Paranormal hunters shouldn't be disappointed, as sprites can serve as an example of how an unknown phenomenon can ultimately be recognized by mainstream science.

Maybe someday the "Bigfoot" or some other mysterious phenomenon will be on a par with the sprite and prove the reality of its existence.
