The proverb "Knee-deep into a drunken sea" means that in a state of alcoholic intoxication, a person is prone to excessive courage, overestimating his own strengths and capabilities.

But sometimes people in a state of intoxication really show real miracles in terms of getting into dangerous situations and surviving in them.

The electrician of the Ural heavy machine building plant P. “refueled”, as they say, to the “pig's screech”, and the next morning, having sober up a little, the proletarian found himself lying … on the wall separating the detention center No. 1 of the city of Yekaterinburg from the outside world.

How, and most importantly, why he climbed a multi-meter concrete obstacle - the "climber" could not explain even to sensitive listeners from the competent authorities ("Stolitsa", 1993, No. 46).

Another similar story: “… My great-grandfather was a great lover of hard drinks. One day, returning from a neighboring village in a good state of drinking, he got into a strange story. Passing through the forest, he suddenly fell asleep and woke up in the morning, sitting in the middle of the lake at the end of a fallen tree. How he got there, my great-grandfather did not remember. But he could not reach the shore, since the tree was thin and everything was in branches.

How he could get there, no one knows, because it was impossible to climb this tree. I had to bring a boat from the village to shine it from there. Found him hanging by a thread from death. And he had bite marks on his neck: four bloody holes that resembled a circle …”(Volgograd newspaper“MIG”, November 1993).

In the late 1990s, a 38-year-old resident of Omsk, a big drinker, was hit by a train on the Moskovka-Karbyshev-1 railway section. In the evening, with a fair amount of drunkenness, he was carried onto the tracks.

The driver noticed a man, switched on the emergency braking, but could not do anything. The poor fellow was hit by an electric train and dragged under the train. The unconscious body was pulled out from under the fifth carriage from the head of the train, and no one doubted that the victim was already dead.

However, the railroad workers almost had enough kondrashka when the suddenly revived "corpse" suddenly escaped, covered them with a three-story mat and calmly stomped home. According to the local newspaper Oreol, a subsequent medical examination found only a couple of bumps on his forehead. (Newspaper "On the verge of the impossible", 1999, No. 14 (218). P. 6.)

A similar incident soon happened to a 16-year-old schoolboy from the town of Eddelak, who had a nice load of schnapps with his friends at the disco. After the libations, the young drunkard did not reach the house for some eight hundred meters and fell asleep right on the roadway.

Meanwhile, a Volkswagen was passing along the road, the driver of which, being absolutely sober, noticed the sleeping man too late and ran over him all the way. Imagine the amazement of the doctors by the ambulance that immediately arrived when they did not find any injuries on the guy.

In October 2000, video footage of American rescuers called in to rescue a man who had taken a drug overdose in Los Angeles was shown on television. The drug addict, who was described as dying on the phone, suddenly turned out to be too alive and, seeing the rescuers, jumped up and jumped from the balcony of the 5th floor onto the asphalt.

All those present were sure that "the guy was dead." The operator managed to shoot a lifeless body lying on the road from the balcony, but when he ran downstairs with the rescuers, the body … disappeared. Only a long search and pursuit allowed the drug addict to be caught.

There was no limit to the surprise of the ambulance doctors when they stated that the person who fell on the asphalt had no visible injuries (later, a better analysis in the hospital revealed a slight spinal injury).

And at that moment, the doctors were also shocked that the addict's heart was beating unnaturally for such situations quickly - pulse up to 185 beats. (TV program "You are an eyewitness", TV-6, broadcast on October 22, 2000 at 15.00.)

The same TV show showed video footage of the work of Russian rescuers who, with great difficulty, pulled a drunkard who had accidentally fallen there from the elevator shaft. There was also no limit to the surprise of the doctors: after flying tens of meters and falling on metal beams, the man was not injured, but only froze to death, waiting for release.

Rescuers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia (and they have the richest statistics) explain the amazing phenomenon of drunken luck in a critical and dangerous situation in this way: even during a fall from a huge height, all their muscles are relaxed, and the landing is a "bag". A dubious hypothesis, but there are simply no other intelligible explanations either from doctors or other scientists.
