The Tierschutzinitiative Haßberge (Tierschutzinitiative Haßberge) in Oberschwappach has a rare animal - three white squirrels. Small rodents, due to their unusual color, would have almost no chance of surviving in the wild

A call came in from the city of Bamberg asking for help. The nest with squirrels fell from the tree, and one of the four animals crawling on the ground was caught by a cat. When the inhabitants noticed the killed cub, they decided to protect the three remaining ones. The saviors could not return them to their mother and turned to the animal protectors.

They were pretty surprised when they saw five-month-old squirrels. The kids turned out to be not the usual dark brown color, but white - this color is extremely rare in nature.

How is it supposed to act in such cases? Animal advocates are aware of the instructions to follow when detecting wild animals. However, those who found the squirrels were amateurs in these matters and did not know that it was impossible to take the babies out of the nest. “It's not enough just to love animals,” said Britta Merkel, chairman of the animal welfare society. For a long time, they have been brought orphaned squirrels, hares and other cubs, which Britta nurses, and then releases into the wild, in their natural habitat.

Unfortunately, albino squirrels are almost impossible to return to nature. Their whiteness, which makes the animals very noticeable against the background of forest greenery, will deprive animals of a chance to escape from predators.
