It was early morning. It's dark and cold. A friend flatly refused to keep me company, I had to go fishing that day alone.
It was barely dawn. I approached the lake shore. And suddenly I saw that a man was walking from the opposite bank just in my direction. Against the background of the white frozen shore, his dark figure stood out clearly, although, of course, I could not see either his face or what he was wearing. I noticed only one detail - the man was clearly limping. Actually, I didn't pay much attention to him. Goes and goes. What do I care?
And then I saw that the man was drowning. He waved his hands (did not hear any sounds), fell through the ice. Then two or three times his figure appeared over the ice (shoulders and head). I threw off my fishing sheepskin coat and, forgetting about fishing, rushed to him. But while I ran … I saw only an ice-hole. And no trace. Precisely that there are no traces. But a man was walking in the snow. The ice was covered with a light snow, and this snow was absolutely clean, untouched … It was somehow not up to fishing.
I returned home and told everyone about the terrible incident. To my surprise, they immediately believed and were afraid. And that's what I heard from them. A long time ago, about 30 years ago, their neighbor, a drunkard, was still lame from the war, really drowned in this lake. He walked along the lake, did not notice the hole and went under the ice. It is not very rare on the lakes. But … Since then, many have seen him - drowning on the lake. And each time the appearance of a lame ghost happened before someone died in the village. During his lifetime, he was, in general, a harmless person, and after death he began to terrify.
I was asked not to tell anyone, and I did just that. But by the evening of the same day we saw an ambulance on the street (they call it there from the regional center). She took the old woman opposite to the hospital. And a day later, we learned that she had died. I asked why everyone is silent about this. “All young people are fleeing from the village, they will die out completely. And if you also scare …"
Well, they know better to live there. And it was, just imagine, it was not so far from Moscow - in the Pskov district of the Tver region”.
