On dyakh, Tim Cook visited Holland, visited the art gallery in Amsterdam (Rijksmuseum Amsterdam). There he was shown a painting by the artist Pieter De Hooch, in which the current head of Apple recognized something very familiar, namely the iPhone.
In the picture, a person holds an object like two drops of water, similar to a popular gadget. Holds correctly, as most users do - in front of you. At the same time, he peers at the screen - either reading an SMS, or dialing it, or photographing a lady.

The painting was painted in 1670. That is, several hundred years before the late Steve Jobs created and started producing the smartphone.

Conspiracy theorists believe that the artist either foresaw the appearance of the iPhone, or depicted in the picture a guest from the future who arrived with his smartphone. Of course, it was impossible to communicate with it in the 17th century, but you can take pictures.

Experts do not see any miracle in the mise-en-scene. The painting is called "A man hands a letter to a woman in the hall." And it is obvious that the object in the man's hand, which can be mistaken for an iPhone, this is the very letter. In a dark envelope.
And Tim Cook was probably joking.
Prehistoric Laptops
The canvas by Pieter de Hooch is by no means the first on which you can see something ahead of time. Here, for example, is the mosaic panel "The Struggle for Soviet Power in Ukraine" in the Moscow Metro at the Kievskaya Koltsevaya station. The communist depicted on it sits at a laptop, talks on a mobile phone, and in front of him holds either a smartphone or a mini-tablet in his hand.

The Kievskaya Koltsevaya station was opened in 1954, when only science fiction writers dreamed of computers.
The author of the panel is a prophet? Guess the shape and purpose of the gadgets? Maybe. But there is also a more reasonable version. Not a laptop in front of a person, but a wooden case from a field radio. The ear does not have a mobile phone, but a receiver with an earpiece. And in the hand is not a smartphone, but a glass.
And here are also laptops - on an ancient Greek fresco and an old tombstone. The similarities are amazing. But even from the school curriculum it is known what is depicted there and is so similar to modern devices. These are tablets with wax on which they wrote. The wax was placed on a plank with a rectangular recess, which was covered by a lid. If you open the lid, you really get something that looks like a laptop.

Another Dutch painter, Jan van Eyck, is considered a kind of vice. In 1434 he created the "Portrait of the Arnolfi Couple" - the first pair portrait known in European painting.
The portrait depicts a thin man, whom the artist for some reason gave the features of the president of Russia, who took office hundreds of years later. The similarities are not undeniable, although the Internet community finds it to be. The coincidence is most likely accidental. Are there few people alike on Earth? And now it's full. And taking into account the previous generations - even more so. Therefore, it is not at all excluded that Mr. Arnolfi simply looked like Vladimir Vladimirovich.
