To the north of Scotland lies the Flannan archipelago, which consists of seven islands. One of them, Eileen Mor, became famous for the mysterious simultaneous disappearance of all three lighthouse keepers.
However, even before this event, which received wide publicity, there were rumors about these places about the spirits and fairy creatures inhabiting them. They appeared after the first inhabitants - followers of the Celtic church - left the territory soon after settling on it. Because of these stories, no one else dared to stay on the island for the night, although shepherds grazed their flocks here during the day. The lack of population made the already difficult navigation in the foggy archipelago difficult, and it was decided to install a lighthouse.
Construction of the Eileen Mor lighthouse began in 1895 and was completed four years later, with the launch on December 7th. It was built near the highest point of this archipelago. According to the rules, three caretakers, one of whom took turns on the next voyage, had to constantly monitor the light.
And literally a year later, on December 15, 1900, an event occurred, an exact explanation of which has not yet been found - only guesses and assumptions. At that time, James Ducat, Donald MacArthur and Thomas Marshall were on watch.
The captain of the steamer "Arktor" passing nearby that day noticed that the signal light had gone out, and reported this to the coastal service. But those occupied with more important issues did not take any measures, leaving everything to go on as usual. Even the scheduled flight, which was supposed to take place on December 20, was postponed due to a strong storm that began four days ago. The cruise ship arrived at Eileen Mor only on December 26. As they approached the shore, they found that there was no flag on the flagpole and did not see any of the greeters. After searching the building, they found no one, but noted that the light was in working order. Based on the found stopped clocks, it was decided that the men had disappeared on December 20, although the entries in the journal ended five days earlier - on the 15th, when the signal went out. The last entries were very unusual,they spoke of a raging storm from December 12 to 15, although it was at this time that the weather was clear and calm, the storm began a day later.
According to some people, this indicates a disembodied force of a mystical nature that rages on the island, which does not tolerate strangers, which then took the ministers or forced them to commit suicide. According to the following caretakers, they repeatedly heard the voices of the missing through the wind.
But there is also a more realistic hypothesis. It has different interpretations, but it usually boils down to the fact that two men were doing some work on the shore, cleaning boxes or tools, and the third, seeing the approaching hurricane, went with warning and help. As a result, everyone was washed away by a powerful wave. This is somewhat contradicted by the fact that two coats were found in the building - it is difficult to imagine that in far from warm weather, someone went out into the street naked.
