Media producer and UFO skeptical blogger John Keeling put forward a new version of what actually happened in July 1947 in the United States near the city of Roswell. According to him, the story with the "flying saucer" was invented by the US military to hide the accidental launch of a nuclear missile without a warhead from a Roswell base.
Killing said that this view is held by former US Air Force Major Robert Friend, who served as the lead UFO researcher from 1958 to 1962. During the height of the Cold War, Friend led Project Bluebook, in which the US military actively studied incidents such as Roswell and collected other UFO evidence.
In correspondence with Killing, the retired major said: “I believe, and not without good reason, that in July 1947, a nuclear missile without a warhead was accidentally fired from a military base near Roswell, and the“upstairs”decided that the story the UFO crash will help hide the truth from the public."
