Three months ago, in China's central Hunan province, a woman gave birth to a boy named Hong, who was diagnosed with polydactyly by doctors. The baby has only 15 fingers and 16 toes.
Polydactyly is an anatomical abnormality characterized by more than normal number of fingers or toes in a person.
During the ultrasound, the Chinese doctors did not record any deformities of the limbs or polydactyly in the boy. Parents approached future childbirth and the child's health as responsibly as possible, because Hong's mother also has traces of a rare anomaly - a woman has one extra finger on each hand and foot.
Before giving birth, a girl working at a local factory was examined at three prestigious clinics, but doctors assured her that the boy would be born without any physical anomalies. Disappointed with the healthcare system, parents are now hoping to raise money for their son to have surgery to remove those extra fingers.
This operation can give the boy a chance to live a normal life without the social pressure and difficulties associated with the unusual number of fingers and toes. However, the family in which Hong was born is poor, the young spouses do not have the opportunity to raise about 100 thousand dollars for the operation itself and the restoration of the boy's health after it. The baby's parents are now trying to contact local charities in the hope that the community will lend a helping hand.
