We have repeatedly told you about the process of 3D printing of biological tissues and even human organs on the pages of our website. Over the past few years, science has made great strides in this area and is not going to give up its positions. That is why Queensland University of Technology, together with specialists from Metro North Hospital, announced the start of construction of the so-called "Institute of Biofabrication", whose staff will scan, model and print the tissues necessary for patients on special 3D-printers.
The institute will occupy two whole floors in one of the buildings located in the medical district of the city of Queensland. The center's specialists will engage in clinical scanning of patients, the collection of their tissues, which will then be turned into printed material (which eliminates the rejection of cells by the body), as well as the design and printing of tissues for implantation or organs for transplantation. Among other things, the center will include an area for training new specialists in the field of bioprinting.
Australian Health Minister Cameron Dick is optimistic about the future of this unique center. While bioprinting is done by individual laboratories and lone scientists throughout the rest of the world, Australia will be the first country to take this technology to a whole new level and make it mainstream. The center will bring together the best specialists from all over the world under its roof and will allow them to conduct research and make new discoveries in this area. The center should open its doors in 2017.
