The last decades have been trying to unravel the mystery of the death of nine tourists in the distant 59th year, when, finally, they began to speak openly about the tragedy that happened in the mountains of the Northern Urals. A group of tourists, UPI students, died under mysterious circumstances in the area of Mount Otorten
Something terrible made nine strong, brave and experienced tourists jump out of the tent into the bitter frost. The bodies of the guys were found only in the spring. All of them had injuries: someone had broken ribs, someone had their tongue torn out.
The investigation into the death was classified. We still do not know the truth, so many are trying to get to the bottom of the truth themselves. Every year, the Dyatlov Group Memorial Fund organizes an expedition to the place where the children were killed. Everyone is accepted. They are exploring the area, trying to find at least some clues to understand who is to blame for the deaths of tourists.
During last year's expedition, the search engines combed the area near the same cedar in the meadow, where in the spring of 1959 they found the mutilated bodies of the guys. This time they explored a place on the eastern slope of the Mountain of the Dead. The search was carried out where the guys put up a tent, from which they then, undressed, jumped out into the cold in the middle of the night. And this time the researchers returned to Yekaterinburg with very important finds. At the place of the last night, the members of our expedition found an old bowler hat. The search engines are sure that this is the bowler hat of the Dyatlov group.
“It is known that the deceased guys had two bowlers, but only one of them was found,” says Yuri Kuntsevich, head of the Dyatlov Group Memory Fund. - And this is definitely not a soldier's bowler hat, but a tourist one. It can be seen that it is not standard, but homemade, perhaps it was made from some old saucepan. The military cannot have such dishes, there is a single stamping.
The pot was pinned to the ground by a huge boulder. Along the edge, the cauldron is overgrown with lichen, but from the inside it is clean, without scale, polished with snow.

Two more interesting finds (or evidence ?!) from the scene of the tragedy are a 54-year-old machine-gun tracer bullet and a part of the rocket engine - a combustion chamber. The bullet was already fired from the machine gun - there are prints of the rifling of the barrel - and apparently entered the layer of snow. The details of the rocket are engraved with numbers. Now, by these numbers, you can find out what kind of rocket it was: when it was launched and by which country.
- Our group of fourteen people split up. Everyone worked on the spot, working out their own version of the death of the group, looking for evidence of their hypotheses, - says Yuri Kuntsevich. - Some of the members of our expedition were sure that it was not without mysticism. For example, one of them, a 72-year-old grandfather, assured that he had a vision in a dream about how the guys died.
The "mystics" were looking for some secret passages at the site of the death of the group. We made friends with a Mansi shaman. He gave us a staff. And we - graduates of institutes - of course, adhered to other, more pragmatic versions: avalanche, military. And our findings - a bullet and a debris from a rocket - are another proof that the death of the guys was connected with some kind of military tests.
