Proponents of conspiracy theories simply love to talk about some highly developed civilization, where people flew on fantastic vehicles and communicated directly with aliens. All this, of course, does not correspond to reality. But there is a grain of truth here: the pre-civilization of the Stone Age really existed and its death became a real catastrophe.
Stone Age people
Think about the fact that the Stone Age is as much as 99% of the entire time of human existence on the planet. Of course, at that time, most of the tribes were still wandering with pleasure from cave to cave, but at the same time, powerful civilizations developed.
Striking development
The city-states of that time were powerful centers of development. Here they knew how to carry out serious engineering calculations, necessary for the construction of megalithic structures - no aliens with proper knowledge of mechanics were simply required.

Seafaring
But the high level of the Aegean seafarers is known to many today. One Antikythera mechanism was worth something, but without it, even in those days, sailors were able to determine the longitude at which the ship was located. In principle, the general level of development of civilization was much higher than the Roman Empire, and nevertheless, this culture was forgotten.
The prototype of Atlantis
We are talking, if you have not guessed before, about the great Cretan-Minoan civilization. It existed from 2700 to 1400 BC - the Minoans became famous for their great fortress palaces, where there was even a sewer. The inhabitants of Crete knew how to melt bronze and traded with Egypt, actively developed writing and culture: now historians believe that it was this civilization that became the prototype of the legendary Atlantis.
Catastrophe
The entire culture was nearly destroyed in an instant. A volcanic eruption on the island of Fira caused an earthquake of incredible strength, which was followed by a tsunami. Most of the Minoan palaces perished in the fire, only the great Knossos remained. As if the gods were really angry with the too successful Minoans - after natural disasters, invaders came.
Greek invasion
The clever Greeks did not simply destroy the great civilization. Actually, the invasion led to the emergence of a mixed, Mycenaean culture. The Greeks were able to strengthen and spread the influence of the region in the Caucasus, Sicily and North Africa.
Peoples of the sea
But the grandiose Mycenaean kingdom was not destined to resist. The invasion of the peoples of the sea (a group of Mediterranean peoples who began their migration in the conditions of the "catastrophe of the Bronze Age") swept it off the face of the Earth. The vast territory fell into complete decay: for the next 400 years, developed cultures were replaced by chaos, which remained in history as the Greek Dark Ages.
