Sixty-nine-year-old Salvadoran Santiago Sanchez has been digging a hole every day for eighteen years.
Why does a pensioner do this? The fact is that in 1998 a resident of the Central American state received from God himself a mission related to digging this hole in the ground. Apparently, Sanchez himself does not know with certainty what result his work will lead to, but every day he invariably picks up a shovel and goes down into the dungeon to make it even deeper.
The man wakes up on an alarm clock at three in the morning to quickly go to his tunnel. Late in the evening, he returns to the surface with forty kilograms of earth, sand and stones - you cannot leave them below, otherwise all this work makes no sense.
No one, besides Santiago himself, even knows what the real depth of the pit is. In the video below, the journalist claims that she is already at least a hundred meters underground and is not going to continue her journey further, because due to lack of air it is difficult for her to breathe. According to Sanchez, this is correct, since he alone has the right to descend to the very bottom of the artificial cave. This is the will of God.
People around the pensioner have different attitudes towards his occupation. Someone believes in the divine purpose of the work of a Salvadoran, some do not. His wife Isabel, unfortunately, is one of the skeptics and considers her husband to be crazy. Sanchez only smiles in response to this and says that as long as the scoffers do not interfere with his work, they are free to say and do whatever they please.
