The mysterious steppe fires of Saryarka (Kazakhstan) were included in the list of wonders of the world according to the Russian encyclopedist Nikolai Nepomnyashchy.
"Magic lights of Turgai" - this is the name of this phenomenon by a Russian researcher who described it in the book "The Most Incredible Cases". It turns out that steppe mirages have been described by Soviet geologists since the mid-1950s.
Lights appear in the evening twilight somewhere near the horizon, and sometimes at a distance of two or three kilometers. The fire flares up stronger, then dims, and then suddenly disappears.
It is known that in the place where the glow appears, there is no habitation, everyone sees the light. According to local residents, this is the soul of the deceased wandering around his mazar burial ground.
Scientists decided to check this version, drove towards the lights and really got to a luxurious burial ground.
Several accidents occurred due to these fires during the Soviet years. Once, two geologists were driving along the steppe road in the middle of the night and lost their way. The driver invited them to look for a track and go back, focusing on the lighted headlights. However, the geologists never came back. Rescuers found them on the third day.
During the Soviet years, several scientific expeditions were organized to investigate the phenomenon of night steppe lights. According to Nepomniachtchi, scientists managed to establish that most often the lights can be seen in the area of the villages of Semiozernoye, Diyevka, but especially often the glow appears in the area of the relict Amankaragai and Terseksky forests located right in the middle of the semi-desert. Locals claim to sometimes see several lights just above the tops of the trees.
Ufologists suggest that in this case we are talking about a UFO.
