The true location of Atlantis has remained a mystery for years. A British scientist named Matt Sibson claims that a small uninhabited rock jutting out above sea level known as Rockall, located in the North Atlantic, is the final piece of that mythical island. The rock is officially part of Scotland and therefore belongs to the territory of the United Kingdom. But this is causing territorial disputes because the rock is also located off the coast of Ireland, as claimed by the authorities. This, in turn, makes it difficult to carry out the necessary research work.
This possible trace of Atlantis is located 300 km west of Scotland, 420 km northwest of Ireland, and 700 km south of Iceland.
Where did the theory come from that this is part of a former lost civilization?
Well, as with most such studies, Sibson derives his theory from the cartographic material he has, a set of maps created many centuries ago. We can say that the maps created in the 16th and 17th centuries were most used by him in the creation of theory. They depict another unknown land, called by the people of that time as "Friesland".
The mystery of this island, according to Sibson, is closely related to Atlantis, because it disappeared from the maps of the 16th and 17th centuries along with him. According to the scientist, the re-emergence of information about the existence of this land may be caused by climate changes that have occurred over the past 13,000 years.

According to the researcher, the rise in the water level in the ocean may be the main reason for the flooding of Atlantis, which, in his opinion, was known to the Europeans as "Friesland". However, there is still little information on the reason for such a rapid rise in water levels. According to more controversial statements, Sibson adds to his theory the option of flooding the island due to a comet that fell to Earth, which could cause massive earthquakes and tsunamis that caused a change in water levels in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
Of course, Sibson's theory theoretically explains the disappearance and appearance of this land on historical maps, but it is entirely possible to assume that they were simply not created on the basis of real data, but rather were compiled from legends and stories passed down from generation to generation. Especially considering that marine research in 2013, funded by Scotland, did not receive any evidence of the existence of this alleged underwater island.
Although, on the other hand, our knowledge of the depths of the oceans is not extensive enough, if only to exclude the existence of previously unknown species of sea creatures that mankind periodically discovers, so how can we be sure that there is no chance of Atlantis existence?
