Maksud Khan, a 35-year-old Indian, went to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Satna, Madhya Pradesh, complaining of abdominal pain. At first, he was supposed to have food poisoning, but then after an endoscope, and then an X-ray inside the man, a lot of foreign bodies were seen in his stomach and intestinal tract.
Khan was immediately sent for surgery and surgeons removed 263 coins, 100 nails and many other metal items from him. The nails alone weighed one and a half kilograms, and all together with coins, nails, pieces of glass, razor blades and a large piece of rusty iron weighed an impressive 7 kilograms.
According to doctors, the man suffers from a serious mental illness, which his relatives knew nothing about.
Dr. Priyank Sharma, who led the team of surgeons, says:
“The patient complained of severe stomach pains, so we wisely decided to check what was inside him with an endoscope. We were shocked to find there were coins, nails and nuts-bolts. We meet such a case for the first time in our work. This person looks mentally unstable as no sane person would do something like this."
According to doctors, Mr. Khan worked as a taxi driver and often swallowed coins that paid for the trip. He complained of stomach pains for three months, and the relatives knew that he swallowed coins from time to time, but they did not associate this with mental problems, but believed that the man was simply severely depressed.

The most surprising thing is that coins and nails have not previously caused serious problems for a man. As the operation showed, a strong deterioration in the man's well-being appeared mainly due to the fact that several nails damaged the intestines and blood loss occurred.
Now Khan is recovering from the operation and vows not to swallow anything inedible anymore.
