It used to be that only the Aedes aegypti mosquito was capable of transmitting the disease. At the end of last week, Brazilian doctors and laboratory assistants made a discovery - the species of mosquitoes Culex quinquefasciatus is also capable of carrying the infection. Researchers suspect that the new mosquito species may have become a carrier after insect bites from febrile rabbits.
Zika disease is an acute infectious fever in monkeys that can be transmitted to humans through mosquito bites, but manifests itself as a benign and smooth disease. The disease is very dangerous only for pregnant women, as it causes microcephaly of the brain with potential severe damage in the developing fetus.
