Doctors from the capital of Colombia - the city of Bogota - were shocked when faced with a rare case in their practice: an 82-year-old patient for 40 years was carrying a fetus.
According to the Metro tabloid, an 82-year-old woman came to a medical institution in the city of Bogota with complaints of a deterioration in health: she was worried about bloating and abdominal pain, nausea and diarrhea. Based on the above symptoms, experts diagnosed gastroenteritis - inflammation of the mucous membrane of the stomach and intestines, and then prescribed appropriate treatment.
However, the prescribed course of therapy did little to help the elderly Colombian woman, so the doctors decided on an additional examination.
Next to the examination of the strange patient began the staff of the Tunjuelito district hospital, who approached the task more responsibly, prescribing additional examinations.
At first, the specialists were inclined towards the previous diagnosis, but an X-ray examination of the abdominal organs made them abandon this idea. The fact is that in the picture, doctors saw a huge tumor, which, upon closer examination, turned out to be a dead fetus.
“We had a version with gallstones, but ultrasound did not confirm this diagnosis. Then we sent the woman for an X-ray examination, which showed the presence of a tumor in the abdominal cavity,”says Kemer Ramirez, the attending physician of the elderly woman. - Only later did we realize that we were faced with a rare case of abdominal pregnancy. In this case, the ectopic pregnancy ended with the death of the fetus, and then its calcification - this is how the body protects itself from infection. The uniqueness of this case lies in the fact that the woman became pregnant at the age of 42, that is, she carried a petrified child in her for 40 years.
At the moment, the pensioner has been transferred to another hospital, where she will undergo an operation to remove a 40-year-old fetus.

The first known patient with a similar pathology is 68-year-old Frenchwoman Madame Colombe Chatri. An autopsy of her body in 1582 revealed that for 28 years she had carried a fully formed, dead girl within her.
