The Great Sphinx has a riddle that everyone considers solved. I mean the one that Oedipus had to guess. Let me remind you of the plot.
A monster appeared near the ancient city of Thebes, which some called the Sphinx, and others called the Sphinx … The second name seems to me personally more appropriate, because, as the ancients say, the monster had a female head and the body of a lion. If you look closely at the Great Sphinx, it is quite easy to notice that his head is really a woman's … But I am not going to call Him or Her a monster, and I do not advise you either.
The Sphinx asked all the travelers following a riddle: "Which living creature walks on four legs in the morning, two in the afternoon, and three in the evening?" People could not figure it out - for this, the Sphinx threw them into the abyss, and then devoured them.
But there was one figure who answered the riddle like this:
“This is a man. In childhood, he crawls on four limbs, in maturity he walks on two legs, and in old age he uses an additional leg - a staff.
They say that the riddle seemed so easy to Oedipus that he even laughed … But the Sphinx was not funny - she threw herself into the abyss, and Oedipus went his own way. This road at first seemed to have led him to happiness, and then to unhappiness, which already gives rise to doubts about the correctness of his answer.
Perhaps you like the answer of Oedipus, but personally to me it seems very similar to the answers of the so-called “Ukrainian experts,” which are now abundant on our television. They are so adept at answering that in a minute everyone forgets what question was asked. Sphinx asked about morning, day and evening … and why did Oedipus heap up ?!)))))))))))))))))))))
The only correct answer for this riddle is the man. Of course, a man is also a man, but not just anyone. I don’t think that you don’t know that men most often have a “third leg” in the evenings - a genital organ.

If the riddle of the Sphinx seems indecent to you, then something completely different seems indecent to me - for the entire existence of this riddle, no one answered it correctly … everyone believed in the nonsense that Oedipus said.
In general, I think that it was a kind of test for the ability of humanity to answer the questions put before it. Alas … the test showed very poor results …
And the Great Sphinx does sometimes throw itself into the abyss … in the figurative, of course, sense … It sometimes buries itself in the sand so that everyone forgets about it for long, long times.
