In the early 1940s, the CIA formed a special mapping department, whose specialists made maps for the President of the United States, the command staff of the army, navy and special services. World War II, Cold War, Vietnam War, Iraqi and Afghan campaigns - these detailed maps, the data for which were obtained by high-quality spies, allowed Americans to easily navigate the new region. Naturally, all this documentation is top secret, but a few days ago the CIA decided to publish some of the papers, in honor of the birthday of the cartographic department. We have selected the most interesting maps that clearly demonstrate what exactly is of interest to the US intelligence services.
