Until now, similar experiments have been carried out only on animals

In the near future, in one of the Moscow clinics, an operation to collect stem cells will take place, with the help of which, as expected, it is possible to significantly prolong a person's life and delay old age. Previously, similar experiments were carried out only on animals, but now biophysicist Alexei Karnaukhov from the Institute of Cell Biophysics of the Russian Academy of Sciences plans to conduct an experiment on himself.

According to the scientist, the operation was originally planned for tomorrow, but shortly before that, an increased sugar content was recorded in the scientist's blood, and it was decided to postpone the experiment a little. The new date will be set after the examination, which the biophysicist must undergo in the near future, Izvestia writes.

Aging, according to the specialist, is not least associated with the accumulation of DNA damage in the cells of the body. In order to significantly slow down this process, it is proposed to take stem cells from the bone marrow of a not too old person, "freeze" them, and transplant them into the body years later.

Karnaukhov notes that earlier experiments on combating aging using stem cells have already been carried out on animals, and as a result, laboratory rodents lived on average 34 percent longer than their counterparts that were not subjected to experiments. According to the biophysicist, the results are convincing enough to start testing the new technology on humans, and the scientist was ready to start with himself.

At the same time, it is noted that the operation of harvesting stem cells itself is not very unique, but for the first time it will be carried out within the framework of such an experiment. It is planned to "return" these cells to the body in about ten years. The biophysicist estimates the likelihood that the life extension experiment will be more or less successful at 95-97 percent.

The scientist notes that today he is 55 years old, and if the experiment shows its effectiveness in his case, then in the case of younger people, the technique should be even more effective.
