Suicide by inheritance
On April 1, 2013, a 69-year-old resident of Vidalia, Georgia (USA) named Sonny Graham was found dead in the backyard of his home. He shot himself with a shotgun to his throat … There were no obvious reasons for suicide. But one strange circumstance soon became clear: in 1995, Graham, then a manager at the Hilton Head plant, received a heart transplant, previously belonging to 33-year-old Terry Cottle, who had shot himself under similar circumstances.
After the operation, Graham contacted the Cottle family, began to correspond with his widow, and finally met 28-year-old Cheryl Cottle in person in January 1997. “I had the feeling that I had known her for many years,” he later recalled.
In 2008, Sonny bought a house in Vidalia for Cheryl and her four children, and three years later, when he retired, they got married, despite the big age difference … And they lived quite happily for two years, until the moment when Sonny Graham committed suicide.
