The Chinese man, nicknamed "Chimpanzee", turned to doctors for help in the hope of getting rid of the thick hair covering part of his body.
Zhang Hongming from Chongqing, southeastern China has a very rare birthmark of huge size, also known as a giant hair mole, which is exactly the source of excessive hair growth. No more than 3% of the world's population has such formations on the body.
This birthmark has been a birthmark for Zhang since birth and, according to him, caused him many inconveniences throughout his adult life, but his family was very poor and he could not receive proper treatment.
“Wool has become my worst nightmare and a real curse since I was born,” says Zhang.
Initially, Zhang said, he only had a disgusting birthmark, but when he was eight years old, hair began to grow out of him, coarser and harsher than his head. By the age of ten, his left arm, torso and back were covered in thick hair.
Over the years, he was attacked first by classmates and then by work colleagues.
“When I started to grow hair, I became an object of ridicule for my friends, schoolmates, neighbors, acquaintances and even some relatives,” Zhang Hongming recalls with sadness in his voice. - At first, when I appeared, crowds of people gathered who discussed me behind my eyes, pointed their fingers at me and pointed out to me my ugliness. At school I was a "black sheep" - an outlandish animal, to gaze at which literally all and sundry came running during breaks. Then they started calling me "Chimpanzee". I would not be surprised if by that time no one knew my real name, but "Chimpanzee" was heard by the whole city and surrounding areas."
