The World Meteorological Organization has promised earthlings a "climatic hell" this year. According to scientists, the series of anomalous and extreme weather events in 2016 will continue.

The current year will be a continuation of the previous one. In terms of material damage, 2016 did not become a record year, nevertheless, the amount at which all natural disasters were estimated (there were 315 of them) reached a colossal value - $ 210 billion. More than 8,000 people became victims of the disaster.

It is a fact that there are more and more catastrophic natural disasters. And the reason for this is global climate change. Greenhouse gases accumulate in the atmosphere, because of this, the temperature of the planet's surface increases. So far there is no reason to believe that this process will even slow down. In 2016, the increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration reached record levels, as a result, the global temperature rose by more than a degree above pre-industrial levels. The rates of the World Ocean advance have increased. If in the 20th century the sea level rose by an average of 1.7 mm per year, now it is happening twice as fast.

Forecast for this year: carbon dioxide will increase by another 2-3 ppm. Meteorological satellites have already recorded overheating of almost the entire planet in January. Small cool areas can be counted on one hand. And here is an incomplete list of territories where the temperature is at a record level: Alaska, the Caribbean, the Amazon, South Africa, the Sunda Islands, Australia, the Arctic.

In the Arctic, meteorological satellites continue to record the rapid destruction of the planet's northern polar cap. On March 7, a new anti-record took place: the Arctic accumulated only 14 million 420 thousand km over the winter? - this is the lowest value by this time of the year for the entire 38-year observation period. Russia owns at least a third of the Arctic Ocean. But this is not the only reason why the processes taking place at the Pole concern our country. Extreme overheating of the Arctic provokes powerful invasions of air masses from the tropical and subtropical zones of the planet. Already this year there were 3 such waves. At the same time, the air displaced from the polar region is sent to the southern latitudes. But under the influence of the Earth's rotation force, the northern stream deviates to the west and begins to swirl, forming an anticyclone. He, in turn, blocks the traditional west-east transport in the atmosphere. Air from the Atlantic ceases to flow to us, softening the climate of Russia. As a result, it gets even colder in winter. And in summer it is hotter and drier.

As a result, as the area of Arctic ice in Russia decreases, the likelihood of spring floods increases. As well as summer droughts, which can ultimately develop into destructive wildfires. In addition, an increase in temperature will increase the frequency of tropical cyclones in the Far East.
