In Moldova, there are more than a dozen houses abandoned by people. These ghost buildings evoke melancholy, but invariably attract the interest of researchers and simply brave tourists. So, in the very center of Chisinau, there is a building from the middle of the 19th century with a mystical history. People call it "The Red Mill", the correspondent of "MIR 24" Irina Glushko reports.

It is known that in 1901 there was a severe fire here. Some of the floors were destroyed and the mill had to be rebuilt almost from scratch. From then on, mysticism begins.

The mill was rebuilt from red refractory bricks, which is why the mill is called red. Since then, she has worked for another century. To make the building stronger, a girl was walled up in the wall of the mill.

“I heard from neighbors that there were some knocks coming from the inside. I associate this with the fact that the mill is empty,”says Director of the Agency for the Inspection and Restoration of Monuments Ion Stefanica.

The ominous mill has an oppressive atmosphere. The townspeople say that the wall, in which the unfortunate woman was supposedly walled up, does not work out in the photographs - the image comes out blurry. Moreover, locals admit that they have seen a female silhouette several times here. Whether it was a ghost, or just it seemed, is still a mystery.

According to another version, the "Red Mill" got its name after its owner killed his family in the building, and then set it on fire. And the red color in the name symbolizes the spilled blood.

Today, the "Red Mill" looks intimidating. Locals try to bypass it. The authorities and the city are planning to repair it. On the ground floor, open a national wine cellar, and on the upper floor - a school for restoration. Perhaps, in a few years, people will again be drawn to the building with a sad history, but no one will remember about ghosts.
