Several taxi drivers working in the area of Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, in the northeast of the island of Honshu, told about strange passengers who began to appear after the devastating earthquake and tsunami that happened in March 2011. The Japanese newspaper Asahi writes about this.
As Yuka Kudo, a researcher from Tohoku University, found out during the collection of material for the dissertation, over the past years, taxi drivers from Sendai have found themselves in an uncomfortable situation more than once due to mysteriously disappearing passengers. She interviewed about 100 people, and some of them said unusual things.
“About a year after the earthquake near Ishinomaki Station, a woman in a coat got into my car and asked me to take her to the Minamihama area,” says one of the taxi drivers. - I asked her if she knew that the area was practically uninhabited after the tsunami? To this the woman exclaimed in a trembling voice: "Am I really dead ?!"
The driver turned around - but there was no one in the back seat.
In another case, a young man of about twenty got into a taxi and asked to be taken to the Hiyoriyama area in the mountains. However, on the way, he disappeared, although the car did not stop anywhere.
- It could be considered a figment of the imagination or a story, but when a client gets into a taxi, the meter automatically turns on. He turned on in these cases, and the taxi drivers had to pay out of their own pockets for the haunted rides, - said Kudo.
In Japan, there are a huge number of stories about ghosts and spirits from the other world. As a rule, they are quite spiteful, but not always - there are also those that do not seek to harm a person.
The Sendai area is one of the most affected by the earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011. The huge wave practically washed away all the houses for a kilometer or more.
