According to legend, during the day, the double-man behaved like an ordinary person. But as soon as night fell, he fell asleep soundly. And then the inexplicable happened - this man turned into any animal he wanted. It could be a cat, horse, or bat.
The two-man could turn not only into a living creature, but also into any object, for example, into a cart. In this guise, he wandered around the neighborhood until the morning, while doing various nasty things. It was not possible to stop him, since he was very strong. The two-man could not wake up of his own free will. To wake up, it was necessary to turn it upside down. After that, the mysterious werewolf fell ill with an unknown disease, which lasted from the new moon to the full moon.
It was believed that after death, the "earthly" soul of a double spirit became free (it could go to heaven). The second devilish part remained to live in the grave or settled under water. People believed that this soul acquires the features of a vampire, so they buried the former werewolves behind the fence of the cemetery, where suicides were usually buried.
Even after the death of a double spirit, his devilish nature could do great harm to people. If this happened, then the grave was dug and an aspen stake was driven into the chest of the deceased infernal creature.
Reasons for the appearance of doubles
In the old days, people believed that the birth of such a child in a family was a punishment for parents for their sins. If a father or mother led a dissolute life, committed mortal sins, then God “gave” them such a child who paid for his parents all his life.
It was also believed that a woman who has six daughters will give birth to a girl with a “double soul” for the seventh time. If a son was born the seventh, then he was delivered from the curse. Dyedushnik had distinctive features:
