The Reykjavik City Hall has asked the road construction organization to take steps to calm the local elves to avoid accidents.
Elves are worshiped by many people in Iceland. In some cases, quite significant changes can be made to the initial construction project so as not to displease the magical creatures.
The workers who built the road in Reykjavik did not show due respect for the elves - and mystical retribution was not long in coming.
A spokesman for a construction firm said the problems have been popping up since the "Elven Stone" was buried under a load of sand last August.
Either the road was flooded with a huge amount of water, then the bulldozers suddenly went out of order, then the workers fell and got injured, and once they had to save a journalist who fell waist-deep in the mud. When someone remembered the unfortunate stone, many were already ready to believe that elfism could not have been here.
It got to the city authorities - and last week, the municipality called on road workers to dig up the magic stone and clean it properly. But they could even move the road to some other place, so as not to anger the elven people once again.
