American and German biohackers, inspired by the phenomenon of natural luminescence, sewed a silicone implant with LEDs, activated by magnets, under their skin. It is reported by Gizmodo.
Pittsburgh-based biohacker group Grindhouse Wetware performed a 15-minute implantation operation simultaneously with their German counterparts from Dusseldorf. The device, called the Northstar V1, is no larger than a coin - significantly smaller than the previous version (Circadia 1.0 computer chip).
The implant allows you to simulate bioluminescence and highlight tattoos. If you run a magnet over your skin, it starts blinking, and after ten seconds it returns to sleep mode. According to the calculations of the developers, the device can light up about ten thousand times before the batteries are discharged. After that, it will need to be removed using a second operation.
The device will go on sale in 2016. Northstar V1 will be distributed to tattoo parlors around the world. Grindhouse Wetware hopes to equip newer versions of the device with additional features, such as transmitting sensitive biometric information to external devices, as well as acting as a gesture sensor.
Biohackers are a special subculture whose representatives are engaged in modifying their bodies using cybernetic devices. Many biohackers are advocates of transhumanism (a movement for the improvement of man by means of science and technology).
Biohackers consider “hacking” their own body and implanting various devices there as the primary means of progress in human existence.
