Scientists from the UK have identified a special enzyme in the cell mitochondria that is responsible for maintaining the shape and elasticity of the cell. Stimulating the production of a substance called mitochondrial complex 2 will keep the skin young for a long time, scientists say. The results of the experiment were published by the Journal of Investigative Dermatology.
The study was curated by Professors from the University of Newcastle Mark Burch-Machin and Amy Bowman. In the experiment of the British to identify the factors provoking cellular aging, 27 volunteers, aged 6 to 72 years, took part. After analyzing the structure and functioning of skin cells of representatives of different age groups, the study came to the conclusion that skin aging is caused by a decrease in the intensity of the production of the mitochondrial complex enzyme
As explained by Professor Mark Burch-Machin, the results of the study will allow the development of a drug, thanks to which it will be possible to preserve youthful skin for a long time.
