They say that the skull retains a little of the life force of the deceased owner and can serve as a link with the other world. Every master of the occult sciences who knows his worth has such a magical attribute at his disposal. However, sometimes the skulls become "screeching". But this does not mean that they make some sounds …
The skull becomes "shrieking" in two cases: if the deceased before death expressed a desire to leave him in his home, but his will was not fulfilled, or if a demon entered the skull after the exorcism procedure.
BOTTLE SKULL
In 1598, the three Griffith sisters lived in North Yorkshire. One of them, Anna, was once killed by robbers when she refused to give them her mother's ring. Hearing the woman's screams, the locals brought her, cruelly
beaten, home, where she died five days later. But before her death, Anna showed a strange desire that her skull after death would remain within the walls of her home.
The family decided otherwise, and Anna was buried, like everyone else, in the old cemetery. Only soon a strange noise began to be heard in the house at night. The sisters understood: Anna asks to go home. When the body was exhumed, they saw that the skull lay separately and seemed to be grinning. After the skull returned to the house, the noise stopped.

Years passed, and the house found new owners - the Boynton family. They, of course, hastened to get rid of the skull. Then the ghost of a dead woman constantly began to appear. Everything calmed down only after the skull found its place on the table in the hall again.
The next owner also did not want to put up with such a neighborhood and hid the skull behind the brickwork. Maybe this is not exactly what Anna wanted? Anyway, her ghost appears over and over again before the anniversary of her death.
PERMANENT REGISTRATION
Once having chosen a house, the "screeching" skulls do not want to leave it and in every possible way oppose expulsion. If the owners of the house do not want to put up with such a neighborhood and try to bury, burn, drown, break the skull, they are chased by a poltergeist or ghosts visit. All this continues until the skull is returned to its place.
The most famous skull is from Moreas Castle in France. This story began in 1860, when the inhabitants of the castle found a mummified human head in the attic. It turned out that it belonged to the Marquis Jean-Pierre de Moreas, who was executed in 1791 on the guillotine. After the execution, one of the servants picked up the Marquis's head and hid it in the attic. Then the revolutionary events made me forget about it for a long time.
The find was buried in accordance with all church canons, and at night a hurricane of enormous destructive force began in the vicinity of the castle, raging for three days, which was replaced by widespread fires. Someone guessed to associate natural disasters with a buried skull. And as soon as he was back in the attic, the weather improved.
In 1894, the new owner of the castle also tried to get rid of the nightmare neighborhood and asked a familiar captain to throw the skull into the sea. The reckless act cost him his life: after a couple of days he fell from his horse and broke his neck. And a ghost appeared to the captain and demanded to "put what was taken in place." Fortunately for the sailor, he had not yet had time to drown his skull. This "screeching" exhibit is still in the castle.
BESOVSKY RESERVOIR
Spirits summoned by mediums during a seance do not always return to where they came from. They find refuge in the bodies of people, and more often in their remains. The skull is precisely the most attractive abode for spirits. Skulls with such residents become sources of various anomalous phenomena.
The famous medium and exorcist of the 19th century, Lucas Picciolo, wrote that in the procedure for driving a demon out of a person, it is very important not to miss the moment of his release and provide him with a suitable object where he could move. Ideally suited for this purpose, according to Picciolo, the skull of a suicide or a violent death of a person.
Knowing about his attachment to the house of "screeching" skulls, Picciolo tried to carry out the procedures for driving out demons in uninhabited buildings, and he left them there. Once he had to exorcise a demon from a young Spanish woman, after which the skull was left in a barn, which stood far from the estate.
But local residents, having learned about this, burned down the barn. From that moment on, the ghost of a lame man began to appear to the inhabitants of the estate, who demanded that the skull be taken into the house. On the site of the burnt shed, they really found a skull completely unharmed by the fire and took it to the estate. Since then, the ghost has never been seen again.
Another case occurred in France in the province of Camargaud. This time Picciolo performed a rite of exorcism in a hut lost in the forest. There he also left the skull with the demon. And five years later, once again in these places, the exorcist learned that people began to disappear in that forest.
The late travelers saw an old woman collecting brushwood. She offered to show a short way or spend the night in her house. Nobody else saw those who agreed. Finding that very hut in the forest, Picciolo found a skull left by him in it. And in the cellar there were more than a dozen corpses.
It was not possible to determine the cause of death of these people. Knowing from experience that it was impossible to remove the skull from the house or destroy it, the exorcist drew a pentagram on the table and placed the skull in the center. The disappearances of people have stopped.
ACCURATE DIAGNOSIS
It turns out that the anomalous properties of "screeching" skulls have found application in medicine. The famous Russian psychiatrist A. Tokarsky told this story in 1900 to Dr. Streltsov. While in Leipzig in 1890, Tokarski met Dr. Herzfield.
The latter became famous for making accurate diagnoses, plunging patients into hypnotic sleep. The procedure itself was kept in the strictest confidence. But for some reason, Tokarski was allowed to attend two sessions. Here's what he said.
After immersing the patient in hypnosis and making sure that she was in a trance, the doctor placed an old skull on her lap. After a couple of minutes, the woman spoke in a strange voice, talking about her way of life, about the excesses that she allowed herself. Only about herself she spoke in the third person.
At the end of the session, the patient, still in a state of trance, announced that she would die in a year and a half from angina pectoris, and demanded that Herzfield write down the prescription for her.
At the same time, she freely operated with Latin terms and names of drugs. When the doctor took the skull from her and put it in the closet, the woman fell silent and fell into a hypnotic sleep. Then Herzfield brought her out of this state, talked about the diagnosis, made an appointment dictated by the spirit, but kept silent about the sad forecasts.
The spirit also did not stand on ceremony with the second patient. He called him an alcoholic and stupid, talked about his sins. And at the same time he predicted that he would die of sarcoma in seven months. True, he did dictate the recipe.
Dr. Herzfield is little known today. They say that towards the end of his life he made erroneous diagnoses and died by committing suicide.
SCARY FIND
Sometimes the skulls become "screeching" as a result of the simplest magical manipulations with them. This feature in the 30s of the last century was used by the sect "Sons of Light", operating in America. Once in the mountains of the Sierra Nevada, a terrible find was discovered - a cave in which there were more than five dozen human skulls. As it turned out, this place was the sanctuary of the sect.
Not long before this, many exhumations had been carried out in nearby towns. Most of the buried bodies lacked skulls. In the course of the investigative measures, they found the executors who dug up the graves, and the leader of the sect, who calls himself the Great Magician. All suspects confessed to sectarianism.
When the police entered the cave, they saw that its walls were lined with magic symbols, and an oil lamp burned near each of the 50 skulls. As Sergeant Milkins later said, seasoned police officers were seized with such fear that they could hardly move their legs. Suddenly, some kind of rustle, coming from an incomprehensible source, swept through the cave, then, in the complete absence of a draft, the lights of lamps danced.
In the rustle, which grew louder, someone's voices were heard. The lamps hung in the air and swayed regularly. The police chose to flee. The next day, the investigators visited the cave. The lamps were extinguished, but the rustle was heard, as on the eve, and the newcomers also experienced a feeling of unaccountable horror.
One of the investigators wanted to take the skull as material evidence, but only touched it and fainted. They decided not to touch the skull, but to blow up the entrance to this dangerous place.
