As you know, the court and other law enforcement agencies serve to guard the law and defend the truth. However, for one reason or another, this is not always and not always possible to do. And then the truth is protected by something mysterious that defies any explanation. No one will be able to avoid terrible retribution
In 1967, the famous mobster and drug lord Tony Givena drove to the American city of Hatward on his dark business. Here, in a local bar, he took a liking to one pretty young lady. The girl, despite all his attentions, turned out to be completely unapproachable. But Tony knew how to deal with such proud, and did not lose hope of winning. It all ended as the young man had expected - soon they already went to his room. However, Tony's joy was premature - the girl continued to play hard to get there.
Having never received a rejection before, this time the mafioso just went berserk. In the end, having drunk well, he simply shot this woman. Literally five minutes later, the police arrived at the scene. It would seem that the drug lord cannot get away now, there was even a witness who saw Givena lead the girl to his room. For this, he was inevitably threatened with an electric chair.
Soon the killer ended up in a local prison. But the mafioso did not lose hope - he called his lawyer Robert Neumann from New York. He made friends with such types and for very good money he perfectly defended them. Tony had money, and a lot, and in order not to sit on the electric chair, he did not spare money. But the lawyer must also work out that kind of money - for everything to be clean, the witness, moreover the only one, must be dead! However, the number did not work - the police provided for such an option, and the woman was reliably hidden from prying eyes. When the accused became aware of this, he flew into a rage and promised Neumann to pull him along. However, the criminal lawyer was not discouraged - for 300 thousand dollars, he found three false witnesses who would provide a one hundred percent alibi for Given at the trial. He agreed without hesitation - he valued his life much more expensive.
False witnesses will be punished
Robert Neumann set to work on his plan. Finding three scum who would fulfill all his conditions for money was quite simple. The first perjurer was a sports shop owner named Devine. At the trial, he had to testify that just before the closing of the store, i.e. at the time of the murder, a man walked in, choosing dumbbells for a long time. He remembered the buyer well, since because of him the store had to be closed much later - it was the defendant
Tony Given. The next perjurer was a middle-aged woman who happened to be in the same store at the same time. It was a certain Clara Buld, ready to say anything for the sake of money, and here such a huge amount. The third was a young man named Edward Norman. For the poor student, it was just a gift of fate. After a detailed briefing, the lawyer went to a meeting with his client, where he informed him about the results of his work. He was just delighted.
Finally the day of judgment came. The only witness for the prosecution gave exhaustive incriminating testimony, after which the court proceeded to questioning the defense witnesses. However, none of the three witnesses appeared in court. The only thing that Neumann could do in this situation was to petition to postpone the hearing to another day. The next day was unusually rich in sensations. First, it turned out that late on the evening before the trial, student Edward
Norman was fixing something in his apartment and accidentally got under stress. His body had already been in the morgue for 24 hours. As for the seller, he also decided to take a bath on the eve of the trial. However, either he overheated, or gulped water, but he suddenly felt bad. As it turned out later, Devine's heart stopped, and he died right in the bath. Clara Buld was already in a hurry for the appointed time in court and therefore, probably, was inattentive. On the way, she had an accident and was taken to intensive care. There, without regaining consciousness, the woman died.
The only way a lawyer in such a situation could help his client was to ask the court for a pardon. On March 3, 1969, the governor rejected Tony Givena's pardon petition and he was sent to the electric chair.
The case with the artist
The inexplicable and mysterious "something" that so peculiarly protects the truth, apparently, sometimes shifts its mission to this or that person. This tragic and at the same time unusual story took place in St. Petersburg at the end of the 19th century. The whole city was then shocked by the villainous murder committed in the attic of a house on Vasilievsky Island. A 14-year-old girl was killed. The best detectives of St. Petersburg were raised to their feet, all police ranks were involved, but the crime remained unsolved. The public demanded to find and severely punish the criminal. Shocked by this event, one well-known St. Petersburg artist decided to visit the scene of the atrocity himself …
When he finished the work, the canvas depicted a gloomy attic room, in the foreground of which was the torn body of a strangled girl. The picture also depicted the killer, although the artist never met him. It was the most real personification of evil: a stocky bearded monster, a repulsive disgusting face with a big slobbering mouth. Especially striking were the low, like Pithecanthropus, forehead, protruding lower jaw and small, close-set eyes.
The most surprising thing was that at the moment of starting work on the painting, the artist suddenly had some unimaginable inspiration, and the hand itself began to apply strokes with putties. The painting turned out to be so real and bewitching that it was decided to put it on display.
One day, when there were especially many people, a heart-rending cry suddenly sounded in the hall. It turned out that some type, looking at the canvas, suddenly screamed wildly and, huddled in convulsions, fell to the floor. The spectators who ran up to him were simply amazed: in front of them lay … the killer from the picture! The similarities were so overwhelming that no one even doubted that this was the culprit. When the police arrived at the exhibition, the strange visitor immediately confessed to committing the villainous murder. There was no limit to his surprise: “What happened, who could sketch me in this terrible moment? I can't imagine! This is some kind of obsession, some kind of devilry."
The terrible find of the princess
This story also took place in Russia at the end of the 19th century. Once Princess Alexandra Kakhovskaya drove into the estate of her old acquaintance, retired warrant officer Epishev. He was known as a great lover of performing arts, had his own theater and a small troupe of actors.
In Grushenka Meshkova, one of his serf actresses, he simply doted. Alexandra Fyodorovna was met by the butler and informed that Grushenka had fled, and the master, feeling sad, had left the estate. But since then, some kind of ghost allegedly settled in the empty house. Intrigued by this story, Kakhovskaya decided to stay overnight.
In the middle of the night, the fearless princess in the doorway saw a transparent female figure in a white robe, which beckoned her to follow her. Leaving the house, the figure went into the depths of the garden and silently stopped near the tree. After a moment, she seemed to melt into thin air. The next morning, Kakhovskaya ordered to carry out excavations at this place, and the half-rotted corpse of a woman was removed from the ground. The servant recognized Grushenka. Despite such incredible arguments of the Countess, the court found all these facts worthy of attention. Epishev was subsequently tracked down and, under pressure from such unusual evidence, was forced to confess to the murder out of jealousy.
What kind of force, moreover, a righteous force, pronounces its cruel but just sentence on the scoundrels and villains, and also contributes to their well-deserved punishment? This, as they say, is information for thought.
