The Malokhtinskoye cemetery (Novocherkassky prospect, 8) is one of the oldest necropolises of St. Petersburg: it was founded by the decree of Empress Catherine I. Once the cemetery was called Raskolnichy: people who did not have money for a decent burial, and Old Believers were mainly buried here.

It was on Malokhtinsky that the first cemetery advertisement in Russia appeared. On January 20, 1898, the Petersburg newspaper wrote with indignation that an inscription appeared on the fence of one of the graves: “In the eternal memory of Lukerya Sidorova. The grate around the grave was made by the saddened husband of the deceased, a blacksmith who lives in Malaya Okhta and accepts orders for such works. I take it cheaply and work conscientiously."

The cemetery operated until 1946, and in the 1980s they wanted to liquidate it, but then this project was abandoned. Today the cemetery is abandoned, and they are going to build up its territory. It is located among residential areas, and in some places the graves are located right next to the walls of multi-storey buildings.

In the meantime, various mystics and Satanists are gathering at Malokhtinsky. It is not only modern abandonment that attracts them: this necropolis has long had a bad reputation. Here they found the last refuge of suicides, as well as those whom the Church did not allow to be buried in the church fence: sorcerers, alchemists and other accomplices of evil spirits. It is said that glowing silhouettes and blue and white mist balls can be seen over such graves at night. And on white nights, a slowly moving greenish glow appears in the cemetery. It happens that a milky-white fog appears in the cemetery, spreading over the grass, and at this time the smell of incense is carried in the air. At night, as they say, here you can hear the groans of not inveterate dead and the clanging of the shackles of the murderers and bandits buried here.

On some graves there are five-pointed stars painted by Satanists, and sometimes even pools of blood … In the winter of 1995, torn apart corpses of animals were constantly found here, but whose victim they were: Satanists or, as some claimed, a werewolf rising from the grave, is unknown.

The black marble tombstone of the merchant of the first guild, Scriabin, is very popular among mystically minded citizens. There is a belief that this family burial can heal the most terrible diseases. The patient needs to come to the grave on the night of Ivan Kupala, kneel down and read the prayer "Our Father" three times, and he will leave already healed.
