Chinese traditional culture emphasizes the need for kindness even in people's thoughts. A Chinese idiom says, "A whisper in the human world is as loud as a thunderclap in heaven." This means that the Gods know our every thought. And thought - whether good or bad - leads to different consequences. Luo Yin (833 - 910), poet of the late Tang and early Wu dynasties, learned this lesson the hard way.

Luo was very good at writing essays and poetry. He was also arrogant and often looked down on others. The neighbors were very afraid of his sarcastic comments. Once he tried to borrow some money from relatives, but many of them refused to help him. Because of this refusal, Law's mother and Law himself took offense at their kin.

The fortune teller said to Luo Yingyu, “You have a high forehead, a straight nose and a square mouth. Your eyes are shining. You look like a nobleman. Please take care of yourself."

Luo and his mother made a wish: “We are offended by the relatives who neglect us. We will take revenge on them when we become rich and powerful. We will not let them live. They discussed this for several days.

One night, in a dream, Law appeared before a Taoist deity. The deity told Law, “You have the blessing to become a nobleman. However, you had unkind thoughts. Would you let other people live because they didn't lend you money? Being so cruel and unkind, if you become a ruler, you will violate the harmony of heaven and earth, and also harm living beings. The Heavenly Emperor is angry at your unkind thoughts. The blessing of the gods to you has diminished."

Luo woke up and saw that he now looked like a completely different person. His forehead and mouth were crooked, and his nose became flat. He told his mother about his dream. Both of them were very sorry.

A month later, Law saw the fortune teller again. The fortune teller was shocked: "Why has your appearance completely changed in such a short time?" Luo told her about the dream and asked, “The gods have become less pleased with me because of one unkind thought of mine. What I should do?"

The fortune-teller answered him: “Heaven knows our every thought. If you have unkind thoughts, then they attract evil into our space. How could heaven fail to notice this? Your appearance is determined by your heart. If your heart is unkind, your appearance changes accordingly. This is a heavenly law. You must change your behavior. Maybe you will be given a second chance. Lo sighed and left.

Luo tried to be kind, became a teacher, and did his best to help others. Qian Liu was one of those who received help from Luo. When Qian became a high-ranking official, he promoted Luo. He helped Qian for 22 years and supported fellow citizens in need. He restored some of his blessings.

Law's story shows that we are all subject to divine laws. Our blessings are determined by our virtue. Kindness creates virtue. Evil, including unkind thoughts, diminishes it. Traditional Chinese culture believes that harming those who are cultivating in Buddhism and Taoism has an even more serious consequence - karmic retribution.

Let's take a look at some modern examples.

One of the key employees of the 610 Office became rich by persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Two years ago, his wife began to suffer from severe headaches four times a day. Doctors were unable to determine their cause. He hired a man from the Buddha school to study the problem. The man told the 610 Office agent that the sharp swords were driven into his wife's head four times a day. He told this employee, "You should do more good deeds."

This police officer realized that this is why Falun Gong practitioners often told him that those who persecute practitioners would be subject to karmic retribution. He decided to change his behavior and stop participating in the persecution. As a result, his wife recovered quickly.

Around November 2001, a Falun Gong practitioner from Jilin Province died as a result of the persecution. His older sister did not practice Falun Gong, and after the persecution began in 1999, she often cursed her brother. Soon after his death, her daughter fell ill with a strange illness. No hospital could offer any treatment. Finally she went to a fortune teller who told her: “The child's uncle is a divine being in heaven. How can you curse him all the time? She understood and stopped scolding her brother, who was a Falun Gong practitioner. After that, the girl's illness disappeared without any treatment.

An official from the Sichuan Province Public Security Division fined a Falun Gong practitioner over 10,000 yuan. He soon got into a car accident. Although he was not injured, the repair fee was equal to the amount of the fine. Falun Gong practitioners told him, “The accident was a warning from heaven. Stop persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. You took 10 thousand yuan and then immediately lost 10 thousand yuan. This is retribution in the same life. Next time, your payback may be over 10,000 yuan. He understood and had retired from the Public Security Agency earlier.

Falun Gong teaches people to be kind and to behave in accordance with the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. More than 100 million people have started to practice Falun Gong after this Buddha school was introduced to the public in May 1992. We hope that all people who pursue a policy of persecution in China will benefit from these lessons, both ancient and modern, and rethink their actions. Politics is not a basic standard for life, and the decisions by which the persecutors persecute practitioners are not accepted in heaven.
