One of the favorite subjects of horror movie authors is ghosts in hospitals. Most often these are psychiatric hospitals, sometimes already abandoned, sometimes - functioning.
One hospital setting already creates an irrational mood. Meanwhile, hospital ghosts are a very real phenomenon. Take the Kings Park Psychiatric Hospital in New York …
The Long Island Asylum has been located since ancient times. It was opened in 1885 by an Episcopal priest and received the unofficial name "Lunatic Refuge". As more and more immigrants arrived in New York in pursuit of the Great American Dream, the hospital was far from empty.
Sources say that at the end of the 19th century, it used the latest methods of treating psychiatric patients for that era, such as occupational therapy, lobotomy and electroshock. In those days, one could get into a mental hospital for the slightest deviation from the norm. There were people who suffered from sleepwalking, obsessive masturbation or mood swings due to menopause. Later, all these manifestations were no longer considered pathologies requiring treatment in a psychiatric hospital.
Once built in a colonial style, hospital buildings could accommodate up to 9 thousand patients. And after World War II, even Russian patients were treated in them, whose psyche turned out to be broken by hard times.
They say that a lot of terrible things were happening in the hospital. So, there were several murders of other patients by violent patients, and the staff hid these facts so as not to ruin the reputation of the psychiatric center. Many patients escaped from the hospital and got lost or died in the forests surrounding the territory of the hospital, and also drowned in the Hudson. Many patients (or maybe not patients at all) were kept here against their will, and not in ordinary wards, but in secret underground punishment cells.
However, over time, the hospital decayed, and in 1996 the complex was closed. Today most of the buildings are abandoned. The doorways are walled up and the windows are barred. But that doesn't stop the thrill-seekers from making their way inside. Many believe that the place is cursed and full of ghosts.

There are many horror stories about him. They say that the spirits of former patients avenge the bullying once perpetrated on them by the hospital staff. In the tunnels under the buildings, ghostly figures were allegedly met, who screamed and groaned. They were also seen wandering around the abandoned park. We also heard terrible sobs coming from the corps under the "symbolic" number 13.
The main building of the former hospital is number 93 and consists of 13 floors. People say that they saw ghostly faces looking out of its windows. This building has the most creepy rumors.
For example, they say that somehow another group of hunters for the unknown came here. One teenager made his way into the fateful 93rd building. Soon, wandering through the dark corridors, he got lost. He wandered around the building for several hours, vainly calling for help and knocking on boarded up doors and windows. Finally, he saw an open door and was able to get out. Something made the guy turn around, and he found on the door from which he had just left, the inscription: "Evil inside."
Another team of "researchers" somehow got into the locked room and also couldn't find a way out. Well, one of the poor fellows guessed to call the police by mobile, which, of course, did not pat the rescued on the head for unauthorized entry into the forbidden territory.
Another "stalker" somehow walked through the underground labyrinths of Kings Park. It seemed to him that there were pools of water under his feet. But, once outside, he found that his shoes were covered in blood … I wonder - whose?
Another "researcher" suddenly fell into the elevator shaft. There were also rumors that he was thrown there by an evil spirit, one of the local "regulars".
One of the Russian tourists who visited Kings Park said that while in one of the abandoned hospital blocks, he heard strange sounds - the creak of a rusty door and the clinking sound on the roof, while there was no one else in the building. And in the photographs some mysterious substance was captured.
State authorities have long been trying to find a developer or investor that would be of interest to Kings Park. But no one has yet been found - this place has a very bad reputation.
