There are still many old tunnels underneath the city of Sacramento, California, and something strange happens from time to time in them.
Sacramento was founded in 1850 when the famous California Gold Rush began. At this time, a huge number of immigrants from all over the world flocked to Sacramento and San Francisco, dreaming of getting rich quickly.
Overcrowding quickly arose, causing outbreaks of life-threatening diseases. To top it all, in 1861 and 1862, severe storms broke out in and around Sacramento and rained nonstop for nearly three months.
The city was completely flooded and at least several thousand people drowned. While residents were evacuated by ferries, the corpses of drowned people constantly floated through the streets. Some were carried very far away by the sewers and many were never identified.
After that, the authorities decided to build a new Sacramento so that the tragedy with the flood would not repeat itself and this city had to stand on levels higher than the old one. The river flows were changed, a dam was built, and new ones were built on top of the old streets with houses.
Thus, the "corpse" of the old city remained at a depth of 8-25 feet under Sacramento. Many of these tunnels were then gradually closed or destroyed, but there are still many sections.
In the twentieth century, these tunnels have long become a favorite place in the criminal part of the city. Bandits and prostitutes gathered here, and forbidden gambling was organized. All the filth of society went underground. From time to time, the bodies of the dead were found here, which were thrown into the tunnels to cover their tracks.

Underground Sacramento has become the evil counterpart of the Upper City, and some really strange things are happening here.
For example, the historic BF Hastings building, which now houses the Pony Express office, has an underground floor built in "Old Sacramento." And the people working here often complain about ethereal voices, abnormal sounds, and even translucent ghosts.
One of the local ghosts in particular looks like a cowboy and loves to laugh and scream at office visitors. Another local ghost, which is also seen quite often, is a woman in a white flowing dress, whom everyone calls Lucy.
In addition to ghosts, other anomalies occur in the tunnels of Sacramento. Some of the researchers talked about the "shadow people" pursuing them, and some of the solitary adventurers completely disappeared without a trace, going into another abandoned tunnel.
There are also stories about how mediums descended into the tunnels and then they were very frightened. They said that there was not a gloomy place for living people and that they were pursued by paranormal entities hiding there.
Several times in our time teams of "ghost hunters" tried to go down into the tunnels, and each time they then vowed never to come there again, as they were very scared of what they saw.
It's scary to say that even local homeless people categorically refuse to hide in these tunnels. First of all, they are afraid of abnormal rats, which behave there completely differently than ordinary ones. Homeless people say that these rats have very bright eyes and that they are incredibly persistent in pursuit of a person, even over a long distance.
Sometimes there are stories of much more eerie entities living in the tunnels. Allegedly, they saw humanoid monsters, whose bodies are covered with swarming masses of rats and exist with them in a kind of symbiosis.
It is also often said that unusual inscriptions or drawings can be seen on the walls of the tunnels, but at least this can be attributed to informal artists. But the existence there of supposedly secret religious cults that conduct their dark rituals cannot be attributed to random homeless people.
