In the village of Lokot, Bryansk region, gaps formed, under which mysterious red brick buildings were discovered. Before the war, the palace of the Grand Duke Mikhail Romanov stood next to this place.

Part of the square that was occupied by the front yard was given away already in Soviet times for a new building, which now houses the tax service. The palace of the emperor's brother burned down during the war.

The locals knew that there were underground structures here. Anna Morozova told Bryansk News:

- Back in the sixties of the last century, young men tried to explore these "basements". They said that there were two underground passages from them - in the direction of the then regional party committee, which occupied the historic building, and in the direction of Prudkov. The men managed to walk some distance, but then they stumbled upon earth rubble.

From the palace to the former district committee - about four hundred meters. Lokot residents call ponds many beautiful ponds dug out during the time of Mikhail Romanov. They are the same distance. Whether underground passages were actually laid in ancient times, or is it one of the many legends that were born on this land, is still unknown. However, underground structures can be judged by the sinkholes and by what can be seen.

Red brick buildings - cellars or something else - go five meters deep. Almost complete vaults, arches and their remains are visible. The buildings stretch for at least ten meters. What are their full dimensions, so far can be judged only by the narrow gaps that extend from the building of the tax authorities.

According to local historian Svetlana Rozhkova, information came to her that there was furniture in these basements earlier.

Obviously, the intervention of historians and archaeologists is now required. If the buildings can be preserved and then restored, they can become, perhaps, the most interesting part of the local history museum, which the locals dream of, as well as the restoration of the palace of Mikhail Romanov.

It is noteworthy that the underground "castle" made itself felt on the eve of the holiday of the House of Romanovs, which takes place annually in Lokt.
