These stories would seem absolutely incredible if they did not actually happen, with real people. Each of us throughout our lives received some kind of injury, serious or not. But after going to the doctor, if it was required at all, everything was formed - we returned to our normal life.

What can not be said about some of the heroes of this article. They happened to live for years with bullets, nails and other foreign bodies in their heads and bodies, not even suspecting about the similar consequences of the injuries and wounds inflicted on them in due time.

DRIED REEK ON MY HEAD

With a two-meter rail in my head, I brought the 55-year-old watchman of the woodworking shop Alexander Degtyarev to the emergency hospital. The accident happened in the mountain village of Khamyshki, in the Maikop region of the Republic of Adygea.

The doctors of the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery of the Maikop hospital were at first speechless: the man's head was pierced through with a wooden lath!

Degtyarev was barely taken to the republican center - with such an injury to overcome about 60 kilometers, albeit in an ambulance, is not a joke. While we were driving, the rail that had pierced the head was not touched. The victim himself did not lose consciousness.

Promotional video:

Alexander recently got a job as a woodworking shop attendant. On that shift, the man was going to saw the slats for the house. At first everything went well, and then the machine jammed, Degtyarev bent down to fix a piece of wood he was processing - and …

After the surgeons examined the wound site, the picture of the consequences of the injury became clear: the bar apparently touched the jugular vein. This meant that it was almost impossible to operate - as long as the vein was clamped with the rod, the wounded lived, but as soon as it was pulled out, an air clot could form, and nothing could help the person. In addition, pulling out a densely planted piece of wood would require considerable physical effort. During the extraction process, the facial and vagus nerves or the eye may be injured.

But they decided on the operation. After the rod was pulled out of the wound, the patient started bleeding. The vein was squeezed, then the surgeons sutured its torn parts - only a few millimeters survived in the jugular vein. Bone fragments were removed from the wound, the doctors were able to restore the nose crushed by the rail, sew the torn part of the face under the eye.

A two-meter rail, entering the infraorbital opening, pierced the maxillary sinus and exited the head in the suboccipital region, almost a millimeter from the spine. Degtyarev was very lucky - the bar did not touch the carotid artery and brain.

Now the hapless processor tree is almost cured. Degtyarev is sure: the doctors actually pulled him out of the clutches of death, and in fact, Alexander can now celebrate May 3 as another birthday. Meanwhile, the Maikop surgeons had the second case of hitting a man in the head with a lath from a woodworking machine in a year. Before Degtyarev, however, the pensioner was pierced through the soft tissues of his face with almost the same wooden bar.

BUT HOW they walked

In most cases, people receive such injuries either due to non-observance of technology when handling tools or other potentially dangerous objects and things, or due to elementary stupidity, often from drunkenness.

One New Year's celebration will be remembered for the rest of his life by a 35-year-old German who has lived with a bullet in his skull for 5 years. All this time, the man did not even know about the injury. As it turned out later, a bullet was planted in this man during a party on the occasion of the New Year - the company got drunk and made a drunken brawl with shooting.

The participant of this festival applied for medical help only in 2010.

He complained of a headache. The symptoms showed that the patient had a brain cyst. The patient was indescribably surprised when the doctors after the operation showed him a twenty-second caliber bullet extracted from the back of his head.

With some effort, the man recalled the circumstances under which he was shot in the head. This happened, according to him, either in 2004 or in 2005. And the case was erased from memory, because the body was then thoroughly pumped up by hell. Over the years, the bullet wound healed and did not disturb the victim for the time being, until the man began to suffer unbearable headaches.

NAIL IN CARE

Surgeons and traumatologists around the world have tons of stories of trauma from electrical appliances. Dante Outullo, a thirty-two-year-old resident of Illinois, naively believed that a nail fired from a pneumatic hammer, which inadvertently pierced his head, only slightly injured him. Dante was building a shed that day and accidentally nailed the airgun in the wrong place.

When he went to the hospital, Autullo refused to believe what the doctors showed him: the X-ray showed that an eight-centimeter iron nail was stuck right inside Dante's skull. Before the ambulance took Autullo to another clinic for surgery, Dante posted a photo of that X-ray on his Facebook page.

The operation was successful, the doctors removed the nail from Dante's brain without any problems. Then they told the operated person that the foreign body had passed literally millimeters from the motor cortex - the part of the brain responsible for controlling the movement of the trunk and limbs of a person.

PASSED WITH FOOT

Several years ago, a Japanese biker, moving at high speed, touched a safety fence and, after driving another two kilometers, noticed that as a result of an accident he lost his leg.

A fifty-four-year-old Japanese man was riding a motorcycle with friends in Hamamatsu (a city west of Tokyo). On one of the bends, the motorcyclist lost control and flew into the road safety fence. Feeling terrible pain, the man did not immediately notice that his right leg was torn off, and drove on. He stopped only when a friend caught up with him, raising the lower limb of the wounded.

The victim was given first aid on the spot, as they could, then he was taken to the hospital. But the surgeons had to shrug their hands - they could not sew the severed leg

SMOKING IS DANGEROUS TO HEALTH

The fact that this bad habit can harm a person even indirectly is confirmed by the case of a 42-year-old New Jersey resident who went out to smoke one night on the porch of his house. The American was stabbed with a knife, but he did not feel it. Either he was thick-skinned, or he was thoroughly drunk that night - the story is silent about this.

Here is how it was. That person came out at two o'clock in the morning for a smoke. Suddenly, out of nowhere, some guy is taxiing to him: give, they say, uncle, a light. The smoking-room turned out to be intractable and sent the young man to a certain place to light a cigarette. Disagreeing with such an attitude towards himself, the young man decided to properly warm up the greedy and the boor. But the owner of the house turned out to be stronger than the attacker, and the guy retreated. True, he still left the memory of himself - he stuck a knife in the back of the one who did not give a light.

It is noteworthy that after the fight, the man with a knife in his back entered the house and went to bed, feeling nothing. In the morning he woke up with back pain, but this time he did not pay much attention to it. It's good that this eccentric lived with his brother - he saw the knife sticking out in the back of a relative. The operation to retrieve it was successful.

FOUND NOT DOCTORS, BUT A METAL DETECTOR

Billy McNealy, a 32-year-old Canadian, has a history almost similar to the previous one. But she is more confused, and there are more people to blame for what happened to McNealy: not only Billy himself, but also the doctors who examined him for almost three years did not know that there was a knife blade in the patient's body.

In 2010, McNealy at an arm wrestling competition quarreled with a competition participant. It came to a fight. As a result, Billy was stabbed five times. McNealy hospital provided the necessary assistance.

Since then, he was constantly bothered by the wound on his back, which had already healed by that time. Doctors assured that the whole thing was in the affected spinal nerve - this is the cause of the pain. Treatment was prescribed, but it did not help. It is noteworthy that when the metal detector was driven around Billy's back, the device worked. It could only mean that there was some metal fragment in McNealy's bone.

The human body is known to be able to reject foreign objects. Veterans of the Great Patriotic War say that fragments of mines and shells, if they were shallow in the body, happened to come out on their own. Something similar happened to Billy McNealy 3 years after he was stabbed in a fight.

One night Billy was awakened by a severe back pain. Out of habit, he began to scratch an old wound and suddenly felt that he had stumbled upon something sharp. This "something" was the edge of a knife.

McNealy operated on, removed a seven-centimeter piece of cold steel from the body. But the story did not end there - Billy sued the medical center, which for many years gave him the wrong diagnoses and prescribed the wrong treatment.

KNIFE IN THE BACK

This photograph of 22-year-old Yulia Popova, who was attacked by a robber near a metro station in Moscow in February 2010, was initially called by many experts a fake, since, in their opinion, a woman who received such an injury could not survive. However, British journalists managed to contact the doctors of the Moscow hospital where the girl was operated on, and they confirmed the authenticity of the picture.

As it turned out, the 22-year-old Muscovite was attacked by a robber near the Bibirevo metro station. The offender tried to snatch the purse from the girl's hands. When she began to call for help, the perpetrator stuck a knife in the back of his victim, pulled out the purse and ran away.

Being in a state of shock, Yulia reached home, not even suspecting that a knife was sticking out of her back. Shocked parents saw him and called an ambulance. The girl was taken to the 81st city hospital. She was saved by the fact that the blade pierced the 7th vertebra of the cervical spine.
