Slovenian archaeologists have uncovered an ancient sarcophagus from the Roman period with the remains of a mysterious noble woman, discovered in the country's capital Ljubljana.

According to National Geographic, the find was made on Gosposvetskaya Street. Excavations began there in 2017. In total, archaeologists have discovered more than 350 burials from the Roman era - IV century AD. Most of them belonged to the nobility.

This is evidenced not only by the luxurious objects found in the graves, but also by the sarcophagi in which the remains were buried. Only rich people with a high position in society could afford such a "coffin".

The burial of a six-year-old girl attracted special attention of researchers. She was buried in a very expensive limestone sarcophagus, mined 20 km from the city. The relatives put a lot of jewelry in the girl's grave, including a gold bracelet, a ring with a precious stone and a necklace.

In a nearby sarcophagus, the remains of a mysterious woman were found who died at the age of 30-40. Judging by the artifacts found near her body, she was a member of the nobility.

The most stunning find, scientists call a blue glass bowl found in this burial. The inscription on it instructs the owner to "drink to live forever!"

We add that the Roman history of Ljubljana began in the 1st century BC, when the settlement that existed there became part of the empire called Emona.
