Throughout its history, humanity has created many stories about vampires and hunters of these creatures, prowling in the dark and driven by a lust for blood.

They are common throughout the world, but these days, for the most part, such stories are perceived as fiction. But there is one place on the planet where vampires are considered real, and that is the African country of Zimbabwe. In this hot land superstitions are widespread, spirits and monsters roam in the night and, as the locals are sure, a terrible flock of vampires hides from people, leaving at night and feeding on their blood.

As recently as 2015, a series of murders allegedly committed by a vampire sparked fear in the inhabitants of this country. A mysterious figure appeared at night in order to rape, kill and drink the blood of unfortunate women walking alone in the dark. The suspect was soon found and arrested. It turned out to be 26-year-old Alois Tapiva Nduna, who, shortly after his arrest, declared that he was a vampire and a Satanist, he frightened the police officers when at first he began to vomit blood in the cell, and then he began to lick it off the floor.

Nduna readily admitted that he had joined the Satanist vampire cult during his time in Zambia and recounted calmly and in great detail how he strangled at least thirteen women and drank their blood. In reality, he was only charged with the death of a 37-year-old milk saleswoman from the city of Mwuma.

Strange things happened to this "vampire killer" during his time in Khami prison. He frightened other prisoners and guards by painting the numbers "666" with his own blood. Sometimes they appeared on his back, which was especially strange, because then he was alone in the cell and his hands were chained behind his back. Sometimes he growled like an animal or sang in unknown languages and spewed curses. He was sick of the blood, which he immediately licked back. The walls of his cell were splattered with blood, and he explained all this by his participation in a satanic cult.

Nduna claimed that blood gives him superhuman strength, that he can leave the prison using his supernatural powers, that the prison cell cannot hold him and he is able to leave it whenever he pleases. He said that he was able to create an astral projection of himself and thus meet with his mysterious patrons. And he continued his strange tradition of spewing blood and reabsorbing it.

The court eventually found him not guilty due to insanity, and he was transferred to a special institution for the mentally ill. As for the satanic cult, there were many other strange events that indicated its presence.

So, in February 2013, four children were hit by a car and almost immediately four figures in dark clothes appeared, rushed to the dead bodies and began to drink their blood. The witnesses were afraid to do anything and the "vampires" continued to drink blood until the police arrived.

After the children were buried, the local chief Bwute called a meeting and told the people that he would invite a sorcerer who would help them understand who those people were. Whether the sorcerer helped or the police were just doing a good job, the "vampires" were soon arrested. Satanic images, ritual objects and much more were found in the house of one of them. The cultists had baboons and other what the report said were “strange animals” as pets and kept buckets of blood.
