Do you often have nightmares? If not, then my friends and I envy you with white envy. Most people I know suffer from midnight horrors. And it would be fine if they were just some kind of phantasmagoric plots, but no! They are so real and vital that people wake up in cold sweats and with gray hair. By the way, the last phrase is not at all a figurative metaphor for a catchphrase. Recently, a friend of mine told me a terrible dream, after which she really had gray hair on the top of her head. I understand the nature of dreams perfectly. I know that nothing comes from outside, all plots are born in our head. No one can dream of something that never happened! It is the brain that creates a beautiful or terrible reality that we plunge into when we fall asleep. I will tell the story of my friend for the edification of others, so that you are not afraid, when nightmares burst into your world.

Marina is very emotional. Such people are said to have bare nerves. A thin, fragile, naive, and at the same time surprisingly strong woman, from the first minute of her acquaintance she struck me with an amazing energy of kindness that emanated from her.

Life did not spoil her with pleasant surprises anyway, and literally six months ago, another terrible blow - a loved one dies. We, friends, did not let her go crazy with grief. Loaded with work, household chores, did not give a minute of respite. But you will not sit inseparably with a person 24 hours a day! Sad thoughts are still wandering in my head, memories are haunting, objects in the apartment remind of a person who has gone to another world.

And the most important and terrible thing is dreams. If during the day, in the whirlwind of working days and obligatory rituals around the house, Marina was distracted, then at night the melancholy driven into the subconscious made itself felt. My friend is a mystical girl. Strictly observed all religious traditions related to funerals and commemorations, constantly travels to the cemetery.

The first forty days after death, her husband, she said, often dreamed. Then there was a happy lull. And now, six months later, he again “made itself felt”. But how!

We are sitting in the kitchen, a friend nervously smokes one cigarette after another and in a trembling voice tells me her nightmare. Classic "dream in a dream". She cannot get out of the sticky horror, it seems to her that the dream has ended, but then it continues. In a dream, she feels cold, hot, tactile sensations are present. The husband came as if he were alive and is looking for a package with his things. By the way, this was the first package that she took to the trash, sorting out his things after the funeral. Marina says that everything was as in reality: cold parquet underfoot, hands feel the hard surface of the walls and table. The only thing she could not do was to touch her husband, who was standing opposite. The husband told her in a dream that he was alive, he did not die, they buried not him, but someone else. Everything that has happened is just an experiment. And so he returned to her.

- I woke up in a cold sweat, I never thought that this happens. I go to the mirror and see that I have aged ten years! - there are tears in her friend's eyes. I have never had gray hair, but here the top of my head immediately turned gray. I'm not making it up, you can see it. And most importantly, you know, he was real! I believed that it was all not true. And I think, who did we then buried? Whom did I see off ?! Who do I go to the cemetery ?! And I could not touch him, I was afraid.

Marina stops talking and looks at me in hope. Silence is prolonged, but something needs to be said. Moreover, knowing her reverent attitude towards the traditions of remembrance of the departed, rich mystical experience and experiences, one must speak as tactfully as possible. But you also need to calm down, return the person to a normal state, distract from terrible thoughts.

Promotional video:

- Listen, if you touched, your hands would fall into emptiness. - I say carefully.

- But I touched objects in the room! I felt them. What if he would be in the flesh?

- Not. - I strongly reject this assumption. You cannot feel what is not. You don't know, maybe at that moment you were wandering around the apartment like a somnambulist, nobody saw this. I bumped into objects and felt them with my hands.

Marina nods in confusion, no one knows, maybe she really walked around the house in this state.

- Understand, everything that you dreamed is just a product of YOUR fantasy. YOUR morbid subconscious. It was YOU who came up with the idea that he did not die, because you still cannot come to terms with the loss. During the day, when you are awake, it seems to you that these thoughts are not there. But they still revolve somewhere on the periphery of the subconscious. At night, when the control of the mind weakens, the dark side takes over the light side.

After thinking, Marina agrees and says that, perhaps, I'm right. Encouraged by understanding, I continue.

“But there’s good news. If you make up dreams, then you control them. If at the moment of a nightmare, you feel everything, then this is a CONSCIOUS dream. It's controllable, you know? You know how to cope with problems in reality, which means you can tame your own subconscious. Next time, as soon as you find yourself in a similar nightmare, start transforming it. Realize yourself in a dream, realize your own power. We cannot change the past, we cannot raise the dead, but you can control sleep. Your brain creates a night picture and it depends only on you where you find yourself. In a gloomy forest or on a sunny lawn. You can choose who you meet on the "sleepy path": a snow-white sheep or a monster!

The friend smiled for the first time in the evening and sighed with relief. It seemed to me that I convinced her, and she will no longer plunge into the abyss of despair and night madness.

Know that nightmares do not come to a person. And he himself in his subconscious generates terrible images. Thoughts, feelings, snatches of memories, bad and good surprises, all this is deposited in our head. When we fall asleep, our consciousness rests, monsters from dreams are the product of fears and emotions driven deep inside. Do not be afraid of nightmares, learn to manage them. Defeat the monsters living in the subconscious, and then dreams will become pleasant, colorful and kind. Remember, the land of dreams is in our head!
