This enigmatic ancient tomb is about 5,300 years old and has intriguing works of art carved into its old stones. The two rocks guarding its entrance are adorned with diamonds, which are said to resemble a human face. The additional stone on the roof also bears an enigmatic five-line carving.

The walk-through tomb near Kilbride, County Wicklow sits on top of a 620 meter high mountain. The collapsed portion of the roof allows spectators to enter the passage.

People have been visiting this mountain structure for thousands of years. A peat profile taken in the 1960s showed that there was once a settlement nearby. Probably, the tomb was opened and explored for a long time, since an early Christian cross was added to one of the stones of the roof.

Ironically, no actual human remains were found inside the tomb when it was excavated in 1931. People speculate that this either means that no one was buried there at all, or that any potential remains were removed and reburied elsewhere.

This is a great location as it offers stunning views of the Wicklow Mountains National Park. However, it can also be a bit of a dangerous place. It is located on the outskirts of the Kilbride military camp and is very close to the active fire zone, which is marked with red flags on days when it is active.
