Residents of the shores of Lake Erie, located on the US-Canadian border, woke up in icy houses. In just one night, their dwellings were covered with a thick layer of ice. Reported by CNN.
According to local residents, the houses were shackled instantly. The ice crust on the buildings has reached three feet (about 90 centimeters). The houses have become like ice sculptures, and the landscape, according to CNN, resembles the atmosphere of the cartoon "Frozen". According to local resident Ed Mees, due to the ice cover, almost no light penetrates into his house, and about 12 feet of ice (almost four meters) has accumulated in his backyard. The man admitted that he had been living in these places for eight years and had never seen anything like it.
The population is worried that the icing could destroy their homes. People fear that it will take a long time for them to restore their homes after a weather anomaly. Ed Mees also expressed hope that the governor will introduce an emergency regime and provide assistance to citizens.
The icing was caused by prolonged stormy wind and waves. The spray was lifted into the air and hit buildings. Due to the frost, all the accumulated water on the walls turned into giant icicles.
A month earlier, a residential building made of ice with three rooms, running water and household appliances was built in the neighboring state of Pennsylvania as part of the "Cool for the Warmth" campaign. It was built by the Dollar Energy Fund, which raises funds to pay utility bills for low-income families. The very idea of building an ice house in the city center has become a metaphor.
