The Parks Authority of Canada is trying to figure out where a giant face, 2 m high, came from on a cliff in a remote region. It was discovered a few weeks ago by Indian Hank Goose. He had been looking for it for two years.

In 2008, one kayaker reported seeing a face and sent a photo to the parks administration, but he could not provide the exact location. The administration contacted a local Indian council and Gus began a search.

Currently, there are discussions about whether it was created by man or is it a natural formation.

The face is very difficult to reach. It is located at a height of about 12 meters from the base of the rock. The rugged coastline and turbulent currents have made exploration difficult in the past few weeks, CTV News reported. The Rock is located on Ricks Island in British Columbia.

Parks Authority Canada Matthew Payne told ABC News:

"Indians have lived in this region for thousands of years, so we are now working with the Indigenous Peoples Council to find out if there are any oral histories or legends that could shed light on the origin of the face."

Discovery News noted: “There are psychological reasons why people see faces where they are not. This phenomenon is called pareidolia: a person sees faces in abstract forms: in clouds, coffee grounds and rocks. The human brain is tuned to recognize faces. The first thing babies start to recognize are faces.

Is it really about pareidolia in this case, or is it the creation of an unknown sculptor who once long ago created an image in such a hard-to-reach place?

Gus told CTV that the face resembles "oogie", a symbol of the wind - an image carved on the door of the local Indian administration.
