At the end of any motion picture, the end credits appear on the screen. Human life is much more complicated than any movie, but what do people see before the end of this “film”?
Many may have heard or read about how people, being in a borderline state, experience unusual sensations. Usually we are talking about hospital patients who have been in a state of clinical death - such people account for the bulk of specific memories. But some of those who survived a heart attack, also after recovering their health, shared some specific experiences that accompanied their critical condition.
It is important to note that until now scientists can not come to a common opinion whether there is a near-death experience at all, although in general the scientific community recognizes the likelihood of amazing experiences in humans. The opinions of experts about what they can be caused also differ.
Scientists believe that the most mundane explanation for this kind of sensation is the overly acute reaction of the receptors of the human body to a violation of the normal supply of oxygen to the brain tissues. This leads to the fact that auditory and visual receptors can produce certain effects such as sounds and flashes of light, which are taken as signs of imminent death.
Another version is a sharp surge of electrical activity in the brain, which occurs in a near-death situation. The experiments of American scientists on rodents confirmed this hypothesis - in mice, a burst of highly synchronized brain activity was instrumentally recorded. According to the researchers, similar changes in the functioning of the body may well be observed in humans, which explains the significant peak of neurophysiological activity of the brain that occurs in those who have been in a terminal state, which may even exceed it during life. At least in a cardiac arrest situation, such a change in brain function in humans has been observed and documented.
Another relatively studied and described probability of a near-death experience, scientists call the preservation of brain activity after cardiac arrest. In this situation, the brain shows increased activity, the level of dopamine and serotononin increases, which in turn leads to the appearance of at least visual hallucinations. Patients also often have an increased level of carbon dioxide in the blood and a lower level of potassium, which, along with an increase in the level of exogenous or endogenous psychoactive substances in the human body, may explain such impressions.
There are also mystical explanations for such experiences, the essence of which boils down to the fact that unusual sensations in borderline states indicate the existence of life after death. And the difference in the nature of these sensations is caused by the fact that each person has his own unique life experience, which affects these experiences.
One of the latest studies conducted by the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care in Buffalo has shown that in addition to the banal bright light and the feeling of peace before death, people can see vivid and understandable dreams in which they meet with their relatives and loved ones (living or dead), preparing to travel or go on it, and also remember pleasant moments from their life. The reasons for the appearance of such dreams, which begin to be recorded 10-11 weeks before death, experts are not yet able to explain.
