" Such a prophecy was given by Nostradamus in his letter to the French king Henry II. It's true about the "cruel persecution". But only half. The mass executions of priests began exactly in the very year when, according to Nostradamus, everything was supposed to end. And there was still the Jacobin terror and the flight of 40 thousand French priests abroad.
But about the motives that prompted him to start creating his famous "Centuries", Nostradamus spoke really prophetically: "I decided to tell in dark and mysterious terms about the changes in the fate of mankind, without offending anyone's fragile feelings." Considering that we live in an era when "insulting the senses" is one of the most common accusations, we must give the prophet his due - he really suspected something.
Another thing is that the competition in the "market for prophets" was hurricane at that time. Predictions and astrological research were something of a mandatory program that should be worked out by every self-respecting scientist, no matter what he did. For example, a contemporary of Nostradamus Girolamo Cardano was also a doctor and also made almanacs of predictions and horoscopes. They have long been forgotten, and the name of this Italian says little to our contemporaries. But we use his invention - the cardan shaft - every time we get into the car.

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" - only in accordance with this postulate can we consider the dizzying career of Nostradamus. This, as you can see, concerns medicine. But the same applies to his predictions. It was not the Centuries that brought him fame and money, but annual almanacs with prophecies for the current period.
